Fourth-Generation Skoda Superb To Be Launched In India By 2025: Local Assembly Planned

The fourth-generation Skoda Superb is set to make its debut in India in 2025. This announcement was made by Skoda India Brand Director Petr Janeba during the global unveiling of the Kylaq subcompact SUV. The new Superb represents an evolution from its predecessor, boasting increased dimensions and advanced technology.

Exterior

The design of the new Superb is evolutionary, featuring a distinctive Skoda butterfly grille flanked by sleek headlamps. Below, a full-width air vent enhances the bumper's appearance. The sedan maintains clean lines reminiscent of its predecessor, with a refreshed rear design that echoes the third-generation model.

Interior Features and Design

Inside, the new Superb distinguishes itself with a minimalist dashboard. A 13-inch freestanding touchscreen serves as the central hub for most cabin controls, complemented by a 10-inch 'Virtual Cockpit' digital display. Notably, three rotary controls called 'Smart Dials' are positioned below the central air-con vents.

These dials incorporate small screens; the outer ones manage climate settings and seat functions, while the centre dial allows customisation of up to four in-car features. This innovative setup adds a modern touch to the cabin's functionality.

Platform and Dimensions

Built on the MQB EVO platform, the new Superb is 43 mm longer and 12 mm taller than before but 15 mm narrower at 1,849 mm. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,841 mm. Despite these changes, Skoda claims improved headroom for both front and rear passengers.

In terms of powertrains, globally, the new Superb offers petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. In India, it is expected to feature a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. A standard 7-speed DSG gearbox might be included.

Skoda is contemplating reintroducing a diesel engine option for this model in India. This move could signify a shift from VW Group's current petrol-only strategy in the country.

Local Assembly Plans

Skoda may consider local assembly for the new Superb in India. The company has already announced plans to locally assemble the new-gen Kodiaq at its Maharashtra plant when it launches in 2025. This approach could extend to the Superb as well.

In India's automotive market, the new Skoda Superb will compete with models like the Toyota Camry. With its enhanced features and potential local assembly, it aims to capture attention among premium sedan enthusiasts across India.

The launch of this model marks an exciting development for Skoda fans in India as they anticipate experiencing this blend of style and technology firsthand in 2025.
