Next-Gen Jeep Compass Teased: Debut In 2025
Jeep's parent company, Stellantis, has recently shared a glimpse of the upcoming next-generation Compass SUV, marking its transition into the third generation by 2025.
This new iteration will distinguish itself from its predecessors by adopting the STLA Medium platform, which is shared with other notable SUVs in the Stellantis portfolio, such as the Peugeot 3008/5008 and Opel Grandland.

Interestingly, the forthcoming Citroen C5 Aircross SUV has also been spotted testing on this versatile architecture, hinting at its wide applicability across the Stellantis brand's future models.
The teaser image unveiled showcases the next-gen Compass's side profile, indicating a departure towards a more angular design while retaining the iconic Jeep front fascia. Noticeable changes include a flatter hood, a more streamlined roof that narrows slightly towards the back, and pronounced wheel arches enhanced with additional cladding.
A key visual element is a prominent character line that stretches from the hood to the rear, dipping slightly at the end of the rear door. Moreover, the design incorporates a modern 'floating roof' illusion created by blacked-out D-pillars and a quarter glass surround, complemented by horizontally placed tail-lamps beneath the rear window, contributing to a compact, cohesive rear aesthetic.
Despite the anticipation for the new Compass, it has been confirmed that this model will not reach the Indian market. This decision stems from the STLA Medium platform's inability to meet cost-effectiveness criteria within India, leading to the discontinuation of the project codenamed J4U, which was initially slated for a 2026 launch.
The substantial investment required to bring a single model based on this platform to India could not be justified by the projected sales volumes. Efforts to augment volumes through the potential manufacture of Peugeot SUVs for the Malaysian market from India also fell short of ensuring the project's viability.
In terms of technology and performance, Jeep has revealed that the new Compass will feature four-wheel drive and support a variety of "various multi-energy propulsion systems". This adaptability is a hallmark of the STLA Medium platform, accommodating a range of powertrains including internal combustion engines, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric options, thereby underscoring Stellantis's commitment to innovation and sustainability in vehicle design.
For the Indian market, the current second-generation Compass, which has been a familiar sight since its 2017 debut and received an extensive update in 2021, will continue to be available until 2026. Despite the absence of a direct successor due to the new model's exclusion, Jeep plans to introduce an entirely new SUV based on a Citroen platform by 2027, promising a fresh option for Jeep enthusiasts in India.
