Newspress Awards 2024 Unveils First Winner In Automotive Journalism Celebration
The Newspress Awards 2024 have commenced with the announcement of the first winner in a week-long celebration of automotive journalism and public relations. The Commercial Vehicle Writer award, sponsored by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, was awarded to Jack Carfrae.
This week is significant for automotive journalists and PR professionals as it marks the announcement of 21 winners in various categories. Each day will see the revelation of a new set of winners, culminating in the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday.

The competition saw hundreds of entries, reflecting the robust health of the automotive media industry. The standard was exceptionally high across all categories, making the shortlisting process challenging. Those who made it to the shortlist can take pride in their achievement.
The judging panel expressed gratitude to all participants and congratulated the winners selected this year. The first award announced was for Commercial Vehicle Writer, with Jack Carfrae emerging as the winner from a talented shortlist that included George Barrow, Richard Gooding, and Tom Webster.
The judges commented on the high calibre of all four entrants, noting their expertise and understanding of their respective audiences. However, Jack Carfrae stood out for his ability to tackle complex subjects and produce engaging features. His piece on telematics and driver monitoring was particularly noted for its readability.
Carfrae's article on the impacts of Brexit was highlighted as especially commendable by the judging panel. His skill in making intricate topics accessible and interesting secured his top spot in this category.
