Volkswagen Unveils New Golf GTI, GTE, And EHybrid Models In The UK
Milton Keynes – Volkswagen is set to launch the sporty GTI and frugal eHybrid versions of the new Golf in the UK. These models will join the Life, Match, Style, and R-Line versions already available. The new Golf GTI offers 265 PS, an increase of 20 PS over its predecessor, and can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds.
The new GTI features Volkswagen’s latest IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with a range of 500 metres. The front sports an illuminated Volkswagen logo, redesigned LED tail light clusters, and 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels. Inside, the revamped infotainment system is controlled via a 12.9-inch touchscreen or Volkswagen IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.
Premium sports seats with the distinctive GTI check pattern and red decorative stitching highlight the interior. The car comes with a seven-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG) as standard, with manual gear selection available via paddles on the multi-function steering wheel. Other standard features include keyless access, heated front seats, three-zone Climatronic air conditioning, rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist.
Pricing and Availability
The Golf GTI can be ordered from 20 June for £38,900 RRP (on the road including VAT). Volkswagen’s new plug-in Golf eHybrids are also set to attract attention with their combination of style, performance, and frugality. Two variants are available: a Style trim with a 204 PS engine and six-speed DSG, and the GTE with a 272 PS engine and the same six-speed DSG.
Technical Specifications
Both eHybrid models use a new 1.5 TSI evo2 engine featuring variable turbocharger geometry (VTG) and an efficient TSI-evo combustion process. They combine electric power with the latest Golf design elements, including an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front. A new 19.7 kWh battery offers fast DC charging of up to 40 kW and AC charging of up to 11 kW.

Additional Features
The Style eHybrid includes three-zone Climatronic air conditioning, Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist. The GTE adds keyless access, heated front seats, tinted rear glass, front fog lamps, and cornering lights. Both models offer an attractive Benefit in Kind (BiK) rate of just five per cent for company car drivers.
Volkswagen's Market Presence
A total of 162,087 new Volkswagen passenger vehicles were registered in the UK in 2023, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This equated to a market share of 8.52 per cent – an increase of 0.35 per cent compared with the previous year – making Volkswagen the UK’s best-selling new-car brand for the third year running.
