MG Reveals New HS SUV Models At Goodwood Festival, Marking A Century Of Innovation
MG’s highly-popular HS SUV, a top ten best-seller in the UK for 2024 and a strong performer in 2023, is set to impress again with a refreshed model line-up. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed during MG’s 100th anniversary celebration, the new HS petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models highlight MG’s commitment to value with enhanced features, increased cabin space, and improved styling.
The new generation of HS models continues MG’s tradition of offering exceptional value in the SUV market. The petrol HS SE 1.5T starts at £24,995, while the range-topping HS Trophy PHEV is priced from £33,995. All MGs come with a generous 7-year/80,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty supported by a network of 160 dealers.
The new MG HS boasts a more sophisticated look with refined proportions. It has a longer wheelbase for more interior space and shorter overhangs for a sleek profile. The new model is 14mm wider and up to 45mm longer than its predecessor but sits 30mm lower. The front grille follows MG’s latest design language, complemented by slimmer headlights connected by a central black panel.
Inside, the new HS offers excellent connectivity and comfort. It features two prominent 12.3-inch high-definition displays: one for infotainment with live navigation services and smartphone connectivity via Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, and another virtual driver display with multiple themes and modes. Trophy models also include a 360° surround view camera and wireless smartphone charging as standard.
The new MG HS provides customers with advanced petrol or PHEV powertrains. The PHEV pairs a 105kW (142ps) 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 154kW electric motor, achieving 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and offering an electric-only range of up to 75 miles thanks to its large battery. This makes it attractive for UK company car drivers due to its low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate of 5%.
The petrol variant features a new-generation 1.5T engine delivering 125kW (169ps) and 275Nm of torque, capable of reaching 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds. It comes with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 7-speed DCT automatic.
MG HS Range Highlights
The new HS includes several key specification upgrades over the outgoing model, particularly in the comprehensively-equipped Trophy model. Standard features include diamond cut alloy wheels, front fog lights, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors with memory, electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, power tailgate, surround view camera, premium audio system, iSmart services, wireless charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality on PHEV models.
All models benefit from an enhanced MG Pilot package featuring Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Open Warning as standard. DCT models also include Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist.
