Maruti Suzuki Swift Vs Hyundai Exter: Which Tops The Indian Market?

In a surprising market shift, SUVs are dominating the top 10 best-selling cars in India, with names like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Hyundai Venue-Kia Sonet duo leading the pack. Amidst this competitive landscape, the launch of the new Swift has sparked interest in car buyers.

That being said, the Hyundai Exter has been doing wonders to the South Korean automaker's sales figures in India, and its SUV stature could get in the way of 2024 Swift's success. As such, here a quick comparison between the Hyundai Exter SUV and the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback.

In terms of size, the new Swift boasts a longer and wider body but falls short in height and ground clearance compared to the Exter's boxy structure. Interior design sees both cars adopting an all-black theme. However, the Exter's taller design offers more comfort for long drives and additional boot space over the Swift is an added bonus.

Feature-wise, both vehicles are well-equipped with modern amenities like touchscreens, wireless charging, rear AC vents, reverse parking cameras, and comprehensive safety packages including six airbags and hill-hold control.

In terms of powertrain, the Swift houses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 80bhp and 111Nm of torque. The Exter, on the other hand, comes with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, slightly outperforming the Swift with 82bhp and 114Nm of torque.

That being said, both the new Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai Exter can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT unit. It is also worth mentioning that the Swift is a lot more fuel efficient than the Exter SUV with a mileage figure of 24.8km/l to 25.75km/l.

When it comes to pricing, both models are competitively matched, with the Swift ranging from Rs 7.67 lakh to Rs 11.32 lakh and the Exter from Rs 7.22 lakh to Rs 12.19 lakh, all prices ex-showroom. This close match in specs and pricing puts them in direct competition, offering consumers a tough choice between the two.

DriveSpark Thinks

The evolving preferences of Indian car buyers, with an increasing tilt towards SUVs and feature-rich compact cars, underscore the fierce competition between automakers to capture market share.

As these trends continue to shape the industry, both the Swift and Exter offer compelling choices for those in the market for a new vehicle, highlighting the diverse and competitive nature of India's automobile market.
