New-Gen Honda Amaze Sedan Spied Testing In India: CNG Variant Could Be Introduced

Honda is readying new-gen Amaze sedan for the Indian market. Furthermore, the 3rd-gen Honda Amaze test mule has been recently spotted testing in the country.

As seen in the spy shots, the test mule of the 3rd Gen Honda Amaze is fully camouflaged. Unfortunately, these images only reveal the car's rearview. From what can be observed, it appears that the upcoming Amaze will feature new tail lights with horizontally stacked light patterns. Additionally, adjustable headrests at the rear seem to be included, a feature missing from the current model.

The overall silhouette of the new Amaze looks quite similar to the current 2nd Gen model on sale. Even the door frames appear somewhat alike. More spy shots in the future will likely reveal additional design elements of this upcoming sub-4m sedan from Honda. Emission testing equipment strapped to this vehicle hints at possible CNG powertrains or a new powertrain setup compared to the current model.

Design and Features

The 3rd Gen Honda Amaze seems to draw some design inspiration from current global Honda cars. Among sub-4m sedans, Amaze stands out for its proportionate execution compared to many rivals. Inside, it may feature a new dashboard and possibly a larger free-standing infotainment system.

The current Honda Amaze isn't lacking but could benefit from enhanced perceived quality and an updated features list. Sensible additions like rear AC vents, leatherette upholstery options, and a front armrest would be welcome improvements for the 3rd Gen model.

Powertrain Options

Regarding powertrains, it's unlikely that a 1.0L turbo petrol engine from the global lineup will be offered. Instead, familiar engines such as a 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol engine or a 1.5L NA petrol engine from the City sedan and Elevate are expected. While using the latter would void B Segment tax benefits, it would streamline Honda's portfolio in India by relying on one platform and one engine.

Transmission options for the new Amaze will include both manual and CVT variants. Although an official launch timeline hasn't been revealed yet, it's speculated that the new Amaze might debut by late 2024 or early 2025.

Market Competition

When launched, the 3rd Gen Honda Amaze will compete with models like Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Dzire. This competition highlights how crucial it is for Honda to offer compelling features and performance enhancements in its latest iteration of Amaze.

Honda is known for keeping their test vehicles under wraps for as long as possible. However, in India where prying eyes are plenty, it's challenging to maintain secrecy. The new Amaze is rumoured to be based on a modified version of City and Elevate's platform, streamlining R&D and manufacturing processes across multiple vehicles.
