New 72km Highway Connects Chitradurga To Davangere, Boosting Karnataka's Connectivity
In a significant development for travel and connectivity in Karnataka, a new 72km long, six-lane highway stretch that connects Chitradurga to Davangere is now open. This route is set to transform the journey between Bengaluru and Mumbai, making it quicker and more efficient.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, shared images of the new highway stretch, referring to it as a crucial link between the financial and tech hubs of India.

Mr. Gadkari highlighted the multiple benefits of this route, including time and fuel savings, as well as its low environmental impact. Gadkari's vision for this project goes beyond mere connectivity; he views it as an opportunity for travelers to experience Karnataka's natural landscapes in an eco-friendly manner.
The construction of this highway, with an estimated cost of Rs 1400 crores, incorporates sustainable building techniques. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to use eco-friendly materials like plastic in bituminous concrete and milling material for service roads. This initiative not only ensures a greener approach to infrastructure development but also aims at reducing future maintenance costs.
This new stretch is part of a broader initiative to enhance road connectivity in the region. Gadkari mentioned a prior announcement of constructing another highway between Nelamangala and Devihalli in Karnataka, which forms part of National Highway-75. The completion of these projects is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Beyond easing travel, the new highway is anticipated to give a substantial boost to the real estate market in Chitradurga, Davangere, and other parts of North West Karnataka. Improved accessibility is likely to attract more investments and development in these areas, benefitting both the local economy and residents.

With the opening of this new highway, travelers can now enjoy a more efficient, eco-friendly, and scenic journey between two of India's major cities, while also contributing to the growth of Karnataka's lesser-known regions.
