MW Motors Spartan 2.0 Is An Electric Force Gurkha That We Won't Get

Czech start-up MW Motors has unveiled its all-electric SUV, the Spartan 2.0. The MW Motors Spartan 2.0 is based on the rugged Force Motors Gurkha SUV.

The Spartan 2.0 is a rugged electric vehicle that utilises the bodyshell, ladder frame chassis, suspension, off-road gear, and interior components of the Gurkha SUV by Force Motors. Meanwhile, the battery pack has been sourced from China while all the other elements are the work of the Czechs.

The MW Motors Spartan 2.0's battery pack has a nominal capacity of 61.1kWh and a usable capacity of 57.4kWh. This battery pack offers a range of 241km (150 miles) and also supports Vehicle 2 Load and can provide 230V power to electrical equipment.

The MW Motors Spartan 2.0 offers fast charging in both AC and DC guises. The Spartan 2.0 supports AC charging up to 9.8kW. With a dedicated 7kW AC charger the Spartan 2.0 can top up its battery from 20 to 80% in under five and a half hours while a full charge (0-100%) takes less than nine hours.

The MW Motors Spartan 2.0 also supports DC fast charging at speeds of up to 90kW. When connected to a 90kW DC fast charger the MW Motors Spartan 2.0 charges its battery pack from 20 to 80 per cent in just 36 minutes.

The battery pack feeds a single electric motor that pushes out a respectable 174.3bhp and an insane 1,075Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a single-speed gearbox and part-time four-wheel drive. A transfer case allows you to manually select two-wheel drive High (2WD High) or four-wheel drive - high and low range. The Spartan 2.0 also features manually locking differentials at the front and rear, as well as hill descent control.

On tarmac, the Spartan 2.0 from MW Motors is not a speed demon with the Gurkha-based electric SUV capable of hitting a top speed of 175km/h. However, the two-seat SUV is electronically limited to 145km/h.

The Spartan 2.0 is a capable off-roader with an approach angle of 35 degrees and a departure angle of 35 degrees. The electric SUV offers over 200mm of ground clearance and can wade through water 700mm deep.

The Spartan 2.0 is quite a compact vehicle, which is not surprising given its origins. The SUV is 4,116mm long, 1,812mm wide, 2,075mm tall and has a 2,400mm long wheelbase. The Spartan 2.0 weighs 2,350 kilogrammes and has a load capacity of 1,025kg thanks to its 1,718 litre cargo area. It also has a towing capacity of 3,000kg.

The interior of the Spartan 2.0 mirrors that of the Force Gurkha with cloth-upholstered adjustable seats, a two-way adjustable steering wheel, electric windows, air conditioning, a digital instrument display, and an infotainment touchscreen. The Spartan 2.0 will be sold as a commercial vehicle in some European markets which is why it's a strict two-seat SUV.

Thoughts About The HW Motors Spartan 2.0

The Spartan 2.0 shows us just how cool an EV based on the rugged Gurkha SUV from Force Motors could look like. While an EV SUV based on the Gurkha could potentially rival the Thar EV, there is currently no news from Force Motors regarding such a development. However, both Force Motors and Mahindra are set to bring diesel-powered, five-door versions of the Thar and Gurkha, respectively, this year.
