Murugappa Group Enters Electric Small Commercial Vehicle Market With New Offering

Murugappa Group, a prominent company based in Tamil Nadu, is gearing up to make an entry into the electric small commercial vehicle market.

This strategic move is spearheaded by their subsidiary, TI Clean Mobility, which already has a foothold in the electric vehicle sector with the 'Montra Super Auto' electric auto-rickshaw.

Murugappa Group Launches New Electric Vehicle

The 'Montra Super Auto' has garnered attention for its sleek design, spacious interior, and impressive range.

Building on this success, Murugappa Group aims to diversify its offerings by introducing a new electric small commercial vehicle. This initiative is poised to challenge Tata Motors, the current leader in this segment.

TI Clean Mobility's new vehicle is designed to meet the rising demand for electric delivery vehicles in India. The company asserts that this upcoming model will feature advanced technology, modern design, high load capacity, and long-lasting performance. Established in February 2022, TI Clean Mobility focuses on manufacturing commercial vehicles tailored for the Indian market.

The new electric small commercial vehicle will be marketed under the Montra brand, joining the ranks of the popular 'Montra Super Auto.' Both vehicles promise a range of up to 160 kilometers on a single charge, catering to the needs of urban and semi-urban logistics.

The 'Montra Super Auto' boasts a top speed of 55 kilometers per hour and a spacious cargo area. Its electric motor delivers 10 kW of power and 60 Nm of torque. Available in three variants—EPX, EPV, and EPV 2.0—the auto-rickshaw features metal bodies, with the EPX variant sporting a hardtop and the others equipped with a Recin canopy.

Similarly, the forthcoming electric small commercial vehicle is expected to offer modern features and an impressive range. This vehicle aims to cater to businesses seeking efficient and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Market Impact

The introduction of Murugappa Group's new electric small commercial vehicle is anticipated to stir competition within the segment. Tata Motors currently holds a dominant position, but this new entrant could accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India's commercial transportation sector.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Indian automotive market is experiencing a surge in demand for electric vehicles. The entry of Murugappa Group into the electric small commercial vehicle segment is a promising development.

This move not only challenges established players like Tata Motors but also has the potential to drive faster adoption of electric vehicles across India's commercial transportation landscape.

Murugappa Group's expansion into the electric small commercial vehicle market marks an exciting chapter for India's EV industry. With advanced technology and modern design at its core, this new offering from TI Clean Mobility could redefine commercial transportation standards in India.
