Motorlux Celebrates Automotive Artistry With Enthusiast Vehicles And Luxury Auction
Motorlux, an event by Hagerty, kicked off Monterey Car Week at the Monterey Jet Center on August 14, 2024. The luxury gathering showcased 225 enthusiast vehicles and 14 aircraft, complemented by culinary delights from 25 local chefs. The event also featured the first day of the Broad Arrow Auction.
The Broad Arrow Auction, held over two days on August 14 and 15, generated $71.5 million with an 85% sale rate. The highlight was a 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Rennversion sold for $7,045,000. Other notable sales included a rare 1998 RUF CTR 2 at $2,095,000, setting a new auction record for any RUF model.

Peter Fink, Hagerty Vice President of Events and Experiences, stated, "Motorlux exemplifies the perfect blend of luxury and community spirit." He expressed gratitude to partners, sponsors, guests, and the drivers and pilots who showcased their remarkable machinery.
Motorlux also benefits charitable causes such as the CHP 11-99 Foundation and the Navy Post Graduate School Foundation. Young men and women from the school's Car Club assist at Motorlux and serve as car pushers for the Broad Arrow Auction.
The auction introduced a unique runway format inspired by fashion shows. This setup included dual viewing galleries that allowed bidders and audience members to fully immerse themselves in the auction's energy amidst a festive atmosphere.
Vehicles making their global or North American debuts included the Kindred Motorworks EV Bronco and Meyers Manx Tarmac Touring Edition. Established icons like the Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 were also displayed.
Aviation Highlights
Aviation enthusiasts enjoyed over a dozen aircraft on display at Motorlux. Among them was a P-51D Mustang known as "Plum Crazy," famous for its history in air racing and air shows. A Citation 560XLS with unique floral livery was another highlight.
The event attracted more than 4,100 attendees who experienced automotive installations paired with specialty food and drinks. Themes included ‘Adventure Machines’ featuring overland vehicles and ‘American Graffiti’ celebrating midcentury hot rods.
Record Attendance
Kenneth Ahn, President of Hagerty Marketplace and Broad Arrow, noted record attendance and a high number of first-time registered bidders. He said, "We had record attendance and a record number of first-time registered bidders."
Ahn highlighted Broad Arrow's success in engaging active bidding on many lots despite market bifurcation during Monterey Car Week. He emphasized their leadership in next-generation enthusiast cars like Porsche and RUF models.
