The latest trend in the automobile segment is turbocharging small 1.0-litre engines to push as much power as possible without sacrificing fuel efficiency. As such, here's a list of the most powerful cars in India with 1 litre turbocharged petrol engines.

1.0 Turbo GDi - Kia Sonet / Hyundai i20 N Line and Venue

This 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine from Hyundai is currently the most powerful 1 litre turbo petrol engine in India with 118bhp and 172Nm of peak torque. This engine is available in the Hyundai i20 N Line, Hyundai Venue, and the Kia Sonet SUV.

1.0 TSI - Skoda Kushaq and Slavia / Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus

The Volkswagen Group's new 1.0 TSI engine is known to be pretty punchy and efficient. This 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine from the German automaker powers the likes of models such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Vlkswagen Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, and Skoda Slavia in India.

That being said, this 1.0-litre TSI engine is not as powerful as the Hyundai's 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and produces just 114bhp. However, this engine puts out slightly more torque at 178Nm, making it feel a bit more punchy.

1.0L Boosterjet - Maruti Suzuki Fronx

At present, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki powers just one model - The Maruti Suzuki Fronx. In the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, this engine has been tuned to produce just 99bhp and 148Nm of peak torque.

That being said, this engine is quite fuel-efficient without sacrificing too much performance. Furthermore, this engine has been previously used in the pre-facelift Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback but was soon discontinued due to emission regulations.
