MINI Plant Oxford Enhances Local Art For OxTrail 2024 Charity Event
This summer, MINI Plant Oxford is backing OxTrail 2024, an initiative by Sobell House Hospice to raise funds for their services. The trail features Ox sculptures designed by artists and local schools, with each sculpture receiving a protective clear coat from MINI Plant Oxford's paint shop.
From 6th July to 29th August, visitors can view the Ox sculptures displayed around Oxfordshire. After the exhibition, the sculptures will be auctioned off to support Sobell House Hospice's work. The hospice provides specialist palliative care for around 3,000 people annually, enriching the lives of patients and their families.
MINI Plant Oxford associates have created their own unique Ox sculpture for the trail. They chose Ocean Wave Green as the base colour and added accents in Sunnyside Yellow and British Racing Green. Michael Lambe, Paint Shop Process Engineer, explained, "The lacquering process is quite unique. Compared to the MINI, with its flowing lines and classic look, the oxen are a whole different animal! Using our ox-pertise, we’ve been able to apply a coat that really makes their artistic design shine."
Artists from across Oxfordshire have contributed to the project. Notable participants include children’s illustrator kOrky Paul and local artist and rapper Rawz. Rawz previously worked on the production line at Plant Oxford in 2006. Their involvement highlights the community spirit behind OxTrail 2024.
Dr. Markus Grüneisl, Plant Director of Plants Oxford and Swindon, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We're thrilled to have lent our paint shop services to the OxTrail. This brilliant initiative helps raise vital funds for Sobell House Hospice, and it's been great to see the MINI team spirit in full flow as our associates have supported the project."
Sobell House Hospice: A Pillar of Support
Sobell House Hospice has been a cornerstone of the community since it began operations in 1976. Beth Marsh, Director of Fundraising at Sobell House Hospice remarked, "The partnership we have developed between Sobell House Hospice and MINI Plant Oxford is one that strengthens our connections to the wider Oxford Community. We’re extremely excited to unveil OxTrail 2024, with this initiative enabling us to ultimately reach more patients."
The BMW Group supports this initiative through its global network of over 30 production sites and sales in more than 140 countries. In 2023 alone, BMW Group sold over 2.55 million passenger vehicles and more than 209,000 motorcycles worldwide.
