2024 Mini John Cooper Works Revealed With 228bhp on Tap

British car manufacturer Mini has revealed the all-new John Cooper Works (JCW) hatchback and convertible. The new 2024 Mini John Cooper Works is the most potent ICE version of the updated Mini lineup.

The new petrol-powered John Cooper Works models join the recently revealed EV that debuted at the Paris Motor Show earlier this month with 254bhp (inclusive of the extra 27bhp with Go-Kart mode activated) on tap.

The new petrol-powered versions of the Mini John Cooper Works instead of the electric gubbins draw power from a 2.0-litre, inline-four petrol engine that is boosted by a twin-scroll turbocharger. The forced-induction powerplant of the Mini John Cooper Works pushes out 228bhp and 380Nm of peak torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels via a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Mini John Cooper Works hatchback sprints from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds while the slightly heavier Convertible does the same sprint in 6.4 seconds. Both the hatchback and convertible versions of the new John Cooper Works top out at 250km/h.

The new JCW models are based on the Sport trim level of the regular Cooper hatchback and convertible but add on a few extra highlights to help distinguish them from their less powerful siblings.

These include new John Cooper Works-specific DRLs, red highlights on the front air intakes and ORVMs as well as a red roof and brake callipers. Optional red or black bonnet stripes on the bonnet are offered with a black Mini logo. The new John Cooper Works convertible also gets an exclusive Copper Grey paint scheme.

At the rear of the new JCW cars, we find a roof-mounted spoiler along with a large diffuser and an exposed exhaust pipe mounted in its centre. The new Mini John Cooper Works rides on either 17 or 18-inch wheels.

The interior of the new John Cooper Works Minis is based on the typical JCW colour scheme of red and black and features JCW sports seats draped in black synthetic leather with multicoloured knitted fabric at the shoulders and red accent stitching.

Other highlights of the new Mini John Cooper Works car interiors include a JCW steering wheel with textile six-o-clock spoke and paddle shifters, a knitted surface on the dash with a black and red pattern and a large circular OLED infotainment screen connected to a Harman Kardon sound system.

The new petrol-powered Mini JCW models also come with a host of advanced driver aids that use 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras. Driving Assistant Plus assists the driver with steering and lane keeping while the Parking Assistant Plus feature can even find a parking space for you.
