Milltek Sport Leads With ECE-Approved Performance Exhausts For Fast Fords
Milltek Sport is ensuring the modification of fast Fords remains compliant with regulations by making sure every new system it develops for popular models is fully ECE-approved. This approval guarantees that all new road-legal performance products for Ford vehicles meet emissions legislation and can pass an MOT.
Amid tightening emissions-based legislation and a clampdown by the DVSA on modifications that infringe a car’s legality, Milltek Sport is taking steps to safeguard performance-enhanced Fords and their owners. Every new Ford system is developed with ECE approval in mind, while its older exhausts conform to legislation relevant to the vehicle's age.
Milltek Sport has been catering to Ford models since the 1980s, currently offering 370 products across 37 Ford applications. The company offers the only ECE-approved system for the Mk3 Focus RS, making every alternative performance exhaust illegal for UK road use.
Since its founding in the 1980s, Milltek Sport has had a strong affinity for blue oval products. Whether they have worn an XR, RS or ST badge, fast Fords have always performed and sounded better with Milltek Sport’s enhancements. The company has been quick to launch its Ford applications due to its ability to invest significantly in its development fleet.
For example, Milltek Sport bought its own Sierra RS Cosworth on the iconic three-door’s 1986 debut and has since run everything from a Fiesta ST and Focus RS to the latest electrified Puma hybrid and Mustang Dark Horse. This investment has accelerated the time to market of its performance products.
Expanding Portfolio
While Milltek Sport’s portfolio has grown exponentially since its early days and now includes hundreds of products for over 40 brands, those for Fords remain among the most in-demand. Currently, Milltek Sport offers 370 products for 37 Ford applications, with catalyst-back systems for the Mk8 Fiesta being particularly popular.
The company's recent additions include systems for all 2023 Mustang models and the latest Puma ST. A notable highlight of its Ford offerings is the only fully road-legal, ECE-approved exhaust for the Mk3 Focus RS.
Ensuring Legality
To make the legality of its Ford applications clear, Milltek Sport has been marking all its exhaust products since 2009. All products are stamped with their suitability for street use or labelled 'not for road use' if designed for motorsport purposes. This information is also available on the company’s dealer portal.
Milltek Sport works closely with its international dealer network to ensure tuning specialists understand compliance rules and risks involved in non-compliance. Steve Pound, Managing Director of Milltek Sport, emphasised: "Fast Fords have long been a mainstay of the modified car scene... We will always have a strong focus on Ford applications..."
Supporting Responsible Tuning
The company's stance on legal tuning is highlighted by its support of Devon & Cornwall Police with an innovative Focus RS ‘police car’. Used by Sergeant Owen Messenger to engage with the modified car community and funded by Vision Zero South West, this Focus was fitted with a fully ECE-approved system at Milltek Sport’s Derby HQ.
This system is currently the only one available for the Mk3 Focus RS that meets stringent ECE requirements; every other performance system available in the UK for this model is not road legal.
Founded in 1983 in the UK by a true car enthusiast, Milltek Sport has grown into a global leader in performance exhaust systems. With headquarters in Derby, UK; a development centre near Germany’s Nürburgring race circuit; and a facility in Tennessee, USA; Milltek designs and tests its range using state-of-the-art equipment.
The company caters to both modern performance vehicles and classic heroes from past decades. For more information on Milltek Sport's offerings for Ford vehicles, visit their website.
