Mid-Size SUV Sales In May 2024: Scorpio Dominates
Mahindra's Scorpio/N and XUV700 dominate the mid-size SUV segment, holding a 73% market share. The Scorpio/N saw a remarkable 47.21% YoY growth, selling 13,717 units in May 2024. This was a significant increase from the 9,318 units sold in May 2023. The XUV700, however, experienced a 4.52% decline in sales, with 5,008 units sold last month compared to 5,245 units in May 2023.
Sales of mid-size SUVs improved by 2.60% YoY to 25,400 units in May 2024, up from 24,757 units in May 2022. Despite this overall growth, many models reported declines in both YoY and MoM sales. The MG Hector/Plus saw a significant YoY decline of 31.93%, with only 1,906 units sold in May 2024 compared to 2,800 units in May 2023.

Tata Safari and Harrier ranked fourth and fifth among best-selling mid-size SUVs in May 2024. However, both models experienced notable YoY declines. Safari sales dropped by 6.48% to 1,661 units, while Harrier sales fell by 29.44% to 1,625 units.
The Hyundai Alcazar faced a severe drop in sales by 61.36%, with only 944 units sold in May 2024 compared to 2,443 units in May 2023. The Alcazar facelift is currently under development and has been spotted with significant exterior updates.

Month-on-Month Sales Analysis
MoM sales for mid-size SUVs fell by 9.37%. Most models saw declines except for the MG Hector/Plus, which grew by 5.13%. The Mahindra Scorpio and XUV700 experienced MoM declines of 7.36% and 18.36%, respectively.
Tata Safari and Harrier also saw MoM declines of 3.21% and 6.93%. Hyundai Alcazar's sales dipped by 22.56%, dropping from 1,219 units in April to just 944 units in May. Jeep Compass sales decreased by 4.61%, while Hyundai Tucson and VW Tiguan saw declines of 16.42% and 5.56%, respectively.

Other Models' Performance
The Jeep Compass reported a decrease of 14.87% YoY with only 269 units sold last month compared to previous figures. Hyundai Tucson (168 units) and VW Tiguan (102 units) also faced double-digit declines.
Interestingly, there were no sales for the Citroen C5 Aircross in May despite one unit being sold in April, which is just sad considering the resources available with the company to promote the model.

The mid-size SUV segment continues to attract buyers despite some models experiencing declines in sales figures.
