MG Windsor EV Infotainment Unit Teased: Dwarfs Many Laptop Screens

MG Motor India has been gradually revealing details about its upcoming Windsor EV, set to launch on September 11. The latest teaser confirms that the Windsor EV will feature a 15.6-inch infotainment screen. This five-seat electric vehicle promises a spacious cabin with enhanced rear-seat comfort, thanks to its dedicated EV platform.

The Windsor EV's 15.6-inch infotainment screen is expected to be available only in the top variant. This display will be the second largest in the mass market segment, following the more expensive BYD Seal sedan. It will offer a range of features, including HVAC controls and multiple other functions.

The teaser reveals that the screen will display range and battery status and support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and connected car technology, including the JioSaavn app. Additionally, it appears to have controls for lights and turn indicators, with drive selector and wiper control functions mounted on the steering wheel column.

Below the infotainment screen are horizontally mounted air vents and HVAC controls. The steering wheel seems to be borrowed from the Comet but includes more buttons, possibly for features like cruise control. An 8.8-inch screen behind the steering wheel handles instrumentation duties with improved graphics and user interface compared to the Comet EV.

Battery Range Details

The Windsor EV offers two battery pack options in Indonesia, where it is sold as Wuling Cloud EV: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh with claimed ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. A front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134hp powers the vehicle. A similar setup is expected for the India-bound Windsor as well.

The dashboard features soft-touch materials on top with unpolished wood and brushed aluminium inserts around the AC vents at the bottom. Additional features include a large static panoramic glass roof, reclining rear seats with centre armrests, rear AC vents, 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting (at least on the top variant), a powered tailgate, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera suite, ambient lighting, and more.

Expected Price and Rivals

The Windsor EV is essentially a high-riding large hatchback but will compete with models like Nexon EV and lower variants of Curvv EV in India. It is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh and positioned below MG ZS EV in MG's India lineup.

This new model aims to provide an affordable yet feature-rich option for Indian consumers looking for an electric vehicle with advanced technology and comfort-focused design.
