MG's Windsor EV Braces For 2024 India Launch With Himalayan Tests
MG in India is gearing up for its first launch in 2024. Recently, MG released a video revealing the official name of its upcoming electric vehicle (EV). The new EV will be called Windsor EV, and several videos and images of it have surfaced online. MG has now shared a new video showing the Windsor EV being tested in the Himalayas.
The video, posted by Morris Garages India on their YouTube channel, features the MG Windsor undergoing tests in Ladakh. The crossover utility vehicle (CUV), as MG refers to it, is seen navigating extreme motorable passes and terrains. The heavily camouflaged Windsor EV is driven on various roads, showcasing its capabilities.
High Altitude Testing
MG conducted tests on the Windsor EV at Chang La Pass, which stands at 17,688 feet. The vehicle was tested in extremely cold weather and rough terrain. Additionally, they took the EV to Wari La Pass at 17,429 feet. From the images available online, we can see how the upcoming MG Windsor EV will look.
The design of the Windsor EV is quite curvy, resembling many multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) seen internationally. Despite this resemblance, MG refers to it as a crossover or CUV. In an earlier video, features like an MG Comet-like steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system were visible.

Specifications and Features
The MG Cloud EV is not entirely new but based on the Wuling Cloud EV sold in Indonesia. It comes with a 50.6 kWh battery pack internationally, generating 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. This model offers a driving range of 460 km. There is also a smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack option available with a range of 360 km.
MG has confirmed that it will price the Cloud EV competitively under Rs 20 lakh. This crossover will compete with models like the Nexon EV since the MG ZS EV is more expensive than the Nexon EV. The Indian market can expect the launch of the MG Cloud by September or October.
Future Plans
MG has partnered with Jio to offer connected car features across all its products through what they call the Innovative Connectivity Platform. The Windsor EV will be the first product to feature this platform.
Rajeev Chaba, Managing Director of JSW MG Group, confirmed plans to expand their lineup in India during a recent interview. Besides the Windsor EV, MG plans to launch the Bingo EV hatchback and a brand-new D-segment SUV positioned alongside their current flagship Gloster.
This upcoming D-segment SUV might be introduced as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Additionally, updated versions of existing models like Hector, Astor, and Gloster are expected to hit the market soon.
The anticipation for these launches reflects MG's commitment to expanding its presence in India's growing electric vehicle market while offering innovative features and competitive pricing.
