Tata Motors has been dominating the electric car segment in India with electric models such as the Nexon EV, Punch EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV. However, it looks like the tables have turned this Diwali with the launch of the MG Windsor EV ahead of the festive season.
In fact, in October 2024, MG Motor managed to sell 3,116 units of the MG Windsor EV in India. This puts the Windsor EV ahead of well-established EV market players such as the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, MG Comet EV, and MG ZS EV.
Speaking about the MG Windsor EV, the bookings for the model opened on October 3. Also, within 24 hours of opening the bookings, MG Windsor EV managed to gather 15,176 bookings.
Price
One of the reasons for the success of the MG Windsor EV could be attributed to BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service). This allows MG Motor India to aggressively price the Windsor EV in the country. In fact, under BaaS, the MG Windsor EV is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh, (all prices in ex-showroom).
However, prices for the MG Windsor EV as a whole starts from Rs 13.50 lakh (ex-showroom). That being said, the MG Windsor EV is available in 3 variants Excite, Essence, and Exclusive. Furthermore, under BaaS, every km costs Rs 3.5, making it very suitable for those with limited running.
Powertrain
Powering the MG Windsor EV is a single electric motor with 134hp and 220Nm of torque. This electric motor is paired with a 38kWh lithium-ion-phosphate battery pack, which promises a range of 332km.
Design
In terms of design, the MG Windsor EV will not get your pulse racing with its mono-volume design, but it ensures maximum space under a very convenient footprint. Also, the aero lounge rear seats with 135-degree recline ensure a very comfortable ride.
Features
Some of the interior highlights of the MG Windsor EV include a large 15.6-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a large glass roof, 256 colour ambient lighting, 9 speaker Infinity sound system, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Safety Tech
In terms of safety, the MG Windsor EV comes well-equipped with safety features such as a 360-degree surround-view camera, 6 airbags, electronic parking brake, auto hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and electronic stability control.
