MG Motor India Unveils MG Select Retail Channel For Electric Vehicles By 2025

MG Motor India is set to introduce a new retail channel, MG Select, focusing on electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and strong hybrids. This initiative aims to cater to the premium segment with distinct offerings. Gaurav Gupta, the company's chief growth officer, mentioned that the first product and facilities under this channel are expected by the first quarter of 2025.

The MG Select channel will exclusively feature what MG refers to as NEVs or new energy vehicles. Over the next two years, four new models will be introduced under this category, all assembled locally. The company plans to establish 12 Select experience centres across India initially, with further expansion into Tier 2 cities in subsequent phases.

MG Cyberster: A Potential Highlight

The MG Cyberster is anticipated to be among the models available through the MG Select channel. This electric sportscar has been showcased in India and is already available in international markets. It offers two battery pack options: a 64kWh battery with a 308hp motor and a 77kWh battery with dual motors producing a combined 544hp.

Gupta confirmed that the Cyberster is one of the shortlisted products for this new retail venture. If launched in India, it could compete with models like the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. The entry-level Cyberster boasts a range of 520km, while the top variant offers up to 580km on a full charge.

Distinct Positioning for MG Select

The MG Select channel will operate independently from MG's existing mainstream brand. It will focus on entry-luxury models without overlapping with current offerings. Gupta emphasized that this approach aims to provide customers with fresh options in terms of product variety, pricing, and overall experience.

Workshops dedicated to these premium models will also be part of the standalone facilities under MG Select. The company sees significant potential in tapping into the entry-luxury market space by offering innovative solutions tailored to customer needs.

This strategic move by MG Motor India reflects its commitment to expanding its presence in the evolving automotive landscape. By focusing on NEVs and establishing dedicated retail channels, MG aims to capture a larger share of India's growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions.
