MG Comet EV With Fast-Charging Capability Launched In India

MG Motor India recently updated its MG Comet EV lineup with an emphasis on faster charging capabilities. This update introduces the addition of two new top-spec trims equipped with a rapid charging feature, catering to the modern-day needs of EV owners who demand convenience and efficiency.

New Features and Pricing Adjustments

The Comet EV, previously available in Pace, Play, and Plush trims, has undergone a nomenclature change to Executive, Excite, and Exclusive, respectively. Notably, the Exclusive and Excite trims now boast the much-anticipated fast-charging option.

While the prices for the Executive and Excite trims remain the same as their predecessors, the Exclusive trim sees a slight increase of Rs 20,000 over the Plush trim level.

In a bid to boost sales, MG Motor India had significantly reduced prices for the Comet EV by up to Rs 1.40 lakh. The current pricing structure for the Comet EV lineup is as follows:

Trims Price (ex-showroom)
Executive Rs 6.99 lakh
Excite Rs 7.88 lakh
Excite FC Rs 8.24 lakh
Exclusive Rs 8.78 lakh
Exclusive FC Rs 9.14 lakh

MG Comet EV now offers a 7.4kW AC fast charger in the higher-spec trims, a significant upgrade from the slow 3.3kW AC charger. This enhancement addresses one of the primary drawbacks of the Comet EV. For context, the previous 3.3kW charger could fully charge the Comet EV in seven hours.

Enhancements for a Superior Drive

The introduction of fast charging is accompanied by several key feature additions across the higher-spec trims. These include the inclusion of rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill-hold control, power foldable wing mirrors in body colour, and a creep mode.

These updates collectively enrich the value proposition of the Comet EV, justifying the Rs 56,000 price increase for the top-end variant. The model sports a 17.3kWh battery offering an ARAI-certified range of 230km.

Furthermore, the rear-axle electric motor delivers 42hp and 110Nm of torque. That being said, its closest competitor is the entry-level Tata Tiago EV, which features a 19.2kWh battery and an ARAI-claimed range of 250km, setting the stage for a competitive segment in the EV market.

MG Motor India's recent adjustments to the Comet EV, including the introduction of a fast-charging option and enhanced features, reflect the brand's commitment to evolving with consumer preferences and the dynamic landscape of the Indian automotive market.

As the electric vehicle sector continues to expand, these strategic updates position the Comet EV as a compelling choice for urban commuters seeking convenience, efficiency, and sustainability.
