MG Motor India Announces Plan For New Car Launches Every 3-6 Months

MG Motor India, in collaboration with JSW, plans to introduce "one new car every three to six months" starting this festive season. Rajeev Chaba, CEO Emeritus MG Motor India, confirmed that five new models have been approved for launch by the end of 2025. "Three of these will be mass-market models while the other two will be premium offerings," Chaba told Autocar Professional.

The first model to hit the market will likely be the Cloud EV, a crossover-style MPV based on a born-electric platform. This vehicle has been undergoing road tests and is expected to launch around September-October. The Cloud EV is a 4.3-metre-long vehicle sold under parent SAIC's Wuling brand in Indonesia. It fits well with Chaba's description of being spacious and feature-loaded.

Upcoming Mass-Market Models

The second model expected is the Bingo hatchback, for which MG has already filed a design patent in India. This 5-door hatchback shares its GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform with the Comet and the upcoming Cloud EV. It features a battery up to 31.9kWh, offering a range of 333km on the CLTC cycle.

Additionally, MG is preparing a new D-segment SUV that will be positioned alongside the Gloster in its India line-up. This SUV is likely to be available in both PHEV and electric versions and is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight S currently sold in China. It will measure approximately 4.8 metres in length and feature two rows of seating.

Premium Offerings

For its premium segment, MG plans to open dedicated outlets for high-end vehicles. One potential candidate for this segment is the MG Cyberster, a 2-door electric sportscar showcased earlier in India to gauge customer interest. The Cyberster is set to go on sale internationally later this year.

Another likely premium offering is the R7 high-riding coupe-SUV from SAIC's Rising Auto brand. This 4.9-metre-long vehicle features a swappable battery and offers both RWD and AWD configurations with up to 600km of range. The R7 has been available in China but will soon launch in Indonesia in right-hand drive configuration.

In addition to these new models, MG also plans updates for its existing line-up. The Gloster facelift is scheduled for later this year, followed by an update for the Hector shortly thereafter.

"With these new additions and updates, we expect our electric vehicle sales momentum to continue," Chaba added.
