BinguoEV: MG Motor India's Next Big Step In Electric Vehicle Market
MG Motor India, in with JSW, is planning to introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) every three to six months. This ambitious plan aims to replicate what Sajjan Jindal, MD of JSW Steel, labels 'The Maruti Moment’. A significant step in this direction is the patenting of the BinguoEV in India.
New MG Sub 4m Electric Car Patented
In December 2023, the BinguoEV was launched in Indonesia by the SAIC-GM-Wuling group. This EV is expected to compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Citroen eC3, Punch EV, and Mahindra XUV400 in India. The BinguoEV, measuring 3,950 mm in length, 1,708 mm in width, and 1,580 mm in height, has a 2,560 mm wheelbase and 790 litres of boot space.
The BinguoEV is built on the SGMW Global Small Electric Vehicle platform and shares some interior elements with the MG Comet EV. Under the MG brand, the BinguoEV might launch in India by 2025. The Indonesian pricing ranges from IDR 317 million to IDR 372 million, which translates to Rs. 16.27 lakh to Rs. 19.09 lakh.
Design and Features
The Wuling BinguoEV has a curvaceous body with smooth sheet metal profiling, similar to the new Fiat 500. Design highlights include X-shaped LED elements in the headlights, water-splash design wheel caps on 15-inch wheels, a dual-tone floating roof, and X-shaped LEDs in the tail lights. It also features disc brakes on all four wheels.
The BinguoEV is available in three colours: Milk Tea, Mousse Green, and Galaxy Blue. The interior features dual screens, a steering wheel, leatherette cladding on the dashboard and door panels, and shiny metallic-looking materials.
Specifications and Range
In Indonesia, the BinguoEV offers two powertrain options: a 31.9 kWh battery with a 41 bhp motor providing a range of 333 km, and a 37.9 kWh battery with a 68 bhp motor offering a range of 410 km. Unlike the MG Comet, the BinguoEV supports DC charging, with the port located on the front right fender.
