MG Cloud EV To Be Named Windsor EV In India: Under Rs 20 Lakh Price Tag, 450km Range & More
MG Motor India is gearing up to introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) in the Indian market, inspired by the Wuling Cloud EV sold internationally by its parent company, SAIC. The upcoming model will be named the Windsor EV. This new EV is expected to offer a range of approximately 450km on a single charge.
Windsor EV: Positioning and Competition
The Windsor EV will be positioned below MG's existing ZS EV. It is anticipated to compete with other popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. With an expected price tag of under Rs 20 lakh, it aims to attract budget-conscious consumers looking for an affordable yet efficient electric vehicle.

MG recently released a teaser asking viewers to guess the name of the new EV using scrambled letters. However, trademarks filed earlier this year confirm that it will indeed be called the Windsor EV. The official name reveal is scheduled for August 5.
Battery Options and Performance
The Windsor EV, known as the Wuling Cloud EV overseas, comes with two battery pack options: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh. These provide ranges of 360km and 460km respectively. The vehicle is powered by a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 134hp. It remains unclear which battery variant will be available in India.

Despite its MPV-like appearance, the Windsor EV seats only five passengers across two rows, making it more akin to a large hatchback. This design choice aligns with its classification as a 'CUV' or compact utility vehicle.
Expected Pricing and Market Position
Priced under Rs 20 lakh, the Windsor EV will slot below MG's ZS EV in their lineup. This pricing strategy positions it competitively against rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, both popular choices in India's growing electric vehicle market.

The introduction of the Windsor EV marks another step in MG Motor India's efforts to expand its electric vehicle offerings. By providing a more affordable option, MG aims to capture a larger share of the market and cater to consumers seeking cost-effective electric mobility solutions.
The upcoming launch has generated significant interest among potential buyers and industry observers alike. As electric vehicles gain traction in India, models like the Windsor EV are expected to play a crucial role in driving adoption and offering sustainable transportation alternatives.

MG Motor India's strategic move to introduce an affordable yet capable electric vehicle underscores its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive sector. With competitive pricing and promising performance metrics, the Windsor EV is poised to make a notable impact upon its release.
