MG Comet & ZS EV Become A Lot More Affordable With BaaS: Prices Now Start At Rs 4.99 Lakh
MG Motor India has revolutionized the electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing a new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program for its Comet and ZS EV models, offering an innovative financing scheme that lets customers rent the battery instead of buying it upfront.
This initiative, first seen with the MG Windsor, aims to make EV ownership more affordable and accessible. The Comet, under this program, has an entry price of Rs 4.99 lakh plus a battery rental fee of Rs 2.5 per km. For the ZS EV, the starting price is set at Rs 13.99 lakh with a rental cost of Rs 4.5 per km for the battery, excluding charging costs.

Through the BaaS initiative, MG Motor India significantly reduces the initial purchase price of its EVs. The Comet's price sees a reduction of Rs 2 lakh, while the ZS EV becomes cheaper by Rs 4.99 lakh.
This program is designed to lower both the upfront cost and the running expenses over time, making EVs more appealing to a wider audience. It's important to note, the Comet and ZS EV can still be bought outright, with their prices ranging from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.53 lakh and Rs 18.98 lakh to Rs 25.44 lakh, respectively.
Understanding the BaaS Model
The BaaS program's financial structure is supported by four companies: Bajaj Finance Limited, Herofin Corp, VidyutTech Services Private Limited, and Ecofy & Autovert Technologies Private Limited. These entities provide diverse rental packages, each with its terms and conditions.
This model not only makes the initial acquisition of an EV more affordable but also offers a unique approach to managing ongoing costs, such as charging, which is additional to the per-km battery rental fee.

Clarifying BaaS Program Details
Given this model's novelty, potential buyers have expressed confusion regarding the total cost of ownership, payment processes, and additional costs like charging. A comprehensive explainer has been crafted for the Windsor's BaaS program, which similarly applies to both the Comet and ZS EV, shedding light on the intricacies of this ownership model.
As the BaaS scheme unfolds, MG Motor India has yet to release detailed variant-wise pricing for the Comet and ZS EV without the battery, as well as a complete price list for the Windsor, with or without the battery option.
