MG India Saves 30,000+ Kilograms Of Volatile Organic Compounds: Utilising Water-Based Vehicle Paints

On World Environment Day, MG (Morris Garages) India made a significant announcement highlighting its commitment to environmental protection.

MG revealed that through the adoption of water-based paints for the repainting over 1.72 lakh vehicles at its service centres across India, it has prevented more than 30,000 kilograms of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from entering the atmosphere over the last five years.

This initiative aligns with MG's dedication to innovative and sustainable practices. Water-based paints emit a mere 10gm of VOCs per litre of water, a stark contrast to the 400gm released by traditional solvent-based paints.

This shift has resulted in a significant reduction of 390gm of harmful VOCs for each vehicle repainted. MG India has been employing water-based paint since it commenced operations in the country in 2019, showcasing its continuous efforts to minimize environmental impact.

MG India s Green Repainting Milestone

Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer at MG India, emphasized the company's holistic approach to sustainability, stating, "At MG, we believe and work in a manner that echoes the fact that sustainability is an integral part of our business. We are delighted to have saved 30,000 kg of VOCs through the mindful adoption of water-based paints at all our service centres in the country."

VOCs are notorious for their easy vaporization at room temperatures. Found in various everyday products, these chemical compounds pose serious health and environmental risks. They contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone, leading to smog, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions and contribute to climate change.

DriveSpark Thinks

MG India's initiatives, including the adoption of water-based paints and the MG Dry Wash (Enviro Wash) initiative, which saves up to 14 lakh litres of water per month, underline the company's commitment to reducing its ecological footprint and fostering a sustainable future.

The introduction of water-based paints in MG's service processes offers a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional painting methods, demonstrating the company's proactive stance on ecological responsibility.

By promoting such sustainable initiatives, MG India not only ensures the well-being of its customers and communities but also contributes significantly to global environmental conservation efforts.
