Upcoming MG Gloster Facelift Spotted Testing – New Powertrain, Level 2 ADAS Could Be In The Cards
The MG Gloster could be an apt example of the word "Imposing" in the dictionary. Though the MG Gloster dwarfs its main rival, the Toyota Fortuner, in size, it is the latter's sales figures which dwarfs the former's.
To better compete against the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster seems to be developing a facelifted version of the outgoing MG Gloster SUV with even more features. We also expect this upcoming facelift to be a lot more substantial as well.
Looking at the spied images, we can confirm that the upcoming facelifted version of the MG Gloster SUV to be just as imposing as the outgoing model. We also expect the upcoming facelifted version of the MG Gloster SUV to sport a few exterior upgrades as well.
Among the changes, the upcoming facelifted version of the MG Gloster SUV may come with a redesigned front grille, front bumper, rear tailgate, and rear bumper. Along with these changes, we also expect the Gloster facelift to feature a few upgrades in the interior as well.
Upgrades to the interior may include better upholstery, a few additional features to aid passenger convenience, and driver safety upgrades. Primary among these upgrades is likely to be the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS tech.
With the inclusion of the Level 2 ADAS tech, the upcoming MG Gloster facelift SUV will come with semi-autonomous driving capability - A feature that is extremely useful to combat driver fatigue while travelling long distances.
At present, the outgoing version of the MG Gloster SUV is available in both 2WD and 4WD variants. The former is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, diesel engine with 160bhp and 375Nm, whereas the 4WD variant sports a 2.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, diesel engine with 212.5bhp and 480Nm.
That being said, both the 2WD and 4WD variants of the MG Gloster SUV come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The latter even comes with multiple terrain modes for better off-roadability over various types of surfaces.
Though the powertrain in the MG Gloster SUV is plenty powerful, MG could even introduce a new powertrain with partial electrification for better efficiency and performance in the upcoming facelifted version.
Thoughts About The MG Gloster
We expect the upcoming MG Gloster SUV to be packed to the brim with tech. Also, the facelift is likey to make the Gloster SUV even more imposing than the outgoing model. That being said, it is difficult to imagine Gloster overtaking Fortuner in terms of sales figures in India.
