Mercedes-Benz G-Class Facelift Revealed – Features Electrified Powertrains
The Mercedes G-Class, an iconic off-road vehicle revered for its blend of luxury and ruggedness, has been updated. This refresh introduces mild-hybrid engines across the range, along with aesthetic and functional improvements. Here's a closer look at what the updated G-Class offers.
Since its reveal in 2018, the G-Class sees its second update with a major highlight being the integration of mild-hybrid technology. The base model now uses a 3.0-litre diesel engine paired with a 48V integrated starter generator (ISG), enhancing its output to 352.1bhp and 750Nm.

Consequently, the model has been renamed from G400d to G450d. Similarly, the G500, available in certain markets, sees its power increased to 430.03bhp thanks to its 3.0-litre petrol engine. It is also worth mentioning that the modifications made to the G-Class's exterior are subtle yet significant.
This includes a redesigned front bumper, radiator grille, and adjustments to the A-pillars and windscreen lip have been made to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels. These changes have also improved the vehicle's aerodynamics, reducing its drag coefficient from 0.53 to 0.48.

An interesting addition to the new Mercedes G-Class SUV is the relocation of the front camera, which is now mounted lower and comes with a washer jet. As a result, the camera can be cleaned with just a click of a button and the system now offers a 'transparent bonnet' view.
Inside, the G-Class is now equipped with the Mercedes' new MBUX infotainment system noted for its touchscreen interface. This new infotainment system was first seen in the Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift SUV.

This update brings temperature-controlled cup holders and a wireless charger. A first for the G-Class is the implementation of keyless entry, a feature requiring significant innovation to integrate without altering the traditional door handle design. The off-road control centre has also been refined for better accessibility.
The G-Class maintains its esteemed off-road prowess with a ground clearance of 229mm, a wading depth of 700mm, and the capability to handle inclines of up to 35 degrees. Its approach angle stands at a commendable 31 degrees.
AMG G63
The performance-oriented AMG G63 variant receives an advanced active suspension system aimed at enhancing both its on-road and off-road performance. The inclusion of 48V mild-hybrid technology keeps its power output steady at 577bhp.
An optional AMG Active Ride Control, a hydraulic suspension technology first introduced on the AMG SL 63, is now available for the G63 SUV, offering a more dynamic driving experience.
