Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 S E Performance Launching In India: Drops V8, Moves To Plug-In Hybrid

Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up for the launch of the AMG C63 S E Performance on 12 November 2024. This marks the brand's 14th release for the year.

The model, first unveiled in September 2022, features a turbocharged and electrified four-cylinder engine, replacing the traditional V8. This engine, inspired by Formula 1 technology, delivers a combined output of 670bhp and 1020Nm.

Powertrain and Performance

The AMG C63 S E Performance boasts the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine. It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 3.3 seconds. The plug-in hybrid setup includes a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, providing an electric-only range of 13km. The nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive ensure optimal power distribution.

Design and Features

The exterior design of the AMG C63 S E Performance is aggressive, featuring redesigned front and rear bumpers, a signature Panamericana grille, quad-tip exhausts, and sporty body kit. The car sits lower with either 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels. Inside, carbon-fibre accents and AMG-specific inserts enhance its sporty appeal.

Advanced Technology

To reduce turbo lag, an electric motor assists the turbocharger using a 400V electrical system. This technology is derived from Mercedes' Formula 1 cars. Additionally, four-wheel steering allows rear wheels to turn up to 2.5 degrees opposite to the front at speeds up to 100kph or up to 0.7 degrees in the same direction at higher speeds.

Market Positioning

Positioned above the C43 in Mercedes' lineup, the AMG C63 is expected to be priced between Rs 1.3 crore and Rs 1.4 crore (ex-showroom). It will compete with models like the Audi RS5 in India. The C63's advanced features and performance capabilities make it a formidable contender in its segment.

The interior mirrors that of the standard C-Class but includes an all-black theme with an AMG-specific steering wheel. A large touchscreen and digital instrument cluster are standard features, enhancing user experience with modern technology integration.

The new generation drops the non-S C63 base model, offering only the AMG C63 S E Performance spec. The vehicle also features wider front wheel arches compared to the regular C-Class, adding to its robust appearance.

With these enhancements and innovations, Mercedes-Benz aims to solidify its position in India's luxury car market through this high-performance model launch in November.
