Mercedes-AMG Sets Future Course With New GT Sport Division Structure
Mercedes-AMG has established a new subsidiary, Affalterbach Racing GmbH, to handle the development of the AMG GT3 successor. This move signifies Mercedes-AMG's strong commitment to GT Sport. The new company will oversee all technical and conceptual customer sport activities for AMG.
Affalterbach Racing GmbH is tasked with developing the next generation of the Mercedes-AMG GT3. This project aims to continue the success of AMG’s international Customer Racing Programme. The new GT3 racing car will be based on a derivative of the Mercedes-AMG GT family.
The second generation of the two-door AMG GT was introduced in 2023, and the sports car family has been expanding since then. The latest addition, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, recently made its debut in Brooklands, England.
In addition to founding Affalterbach Racing GmbH, Mercedes-AMG plans to acquire part of its long-time partner HWA AG. Both companies have signed a letter of intent for this acquisition. This integration aims to enhance Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing by combining development expertise and providing international customer service at racetracks.
HWA AG will continue its other business ventures independently, including the HWA EVO project. This project involves reinterpreting the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II.
Commitment to Motorsport
Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, stated: "Motorsport is part of the DNA of Mercedes‑AMG. This currently includes GT Sport in particular, in which we’ve been very successful for years. Going forward, we not only want to continue these successes but also expand them further."
Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, added: "I’m very pleased to be reaffirming our long-term and sustainable commitment to customer racing with the establishment of Affalterbach Racing GmbH."
Technological Synergy
The creation of Affalterbach Racing GmbH allows for a more focused application of specialist knowledge in future projects. This synergy between various development areas within AMG will enable faster technological exchanges and advancements.
Affalterbach Racing GmbH will work closely with the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport team, which remains responsible for coordinating international motorsport activities. This collaboration aims to utilise in-house expertise more effectively and set a strategic course for future developments.
