Mercedes A-Class In Production Till 2026: New EV Line Up To Be Released By 2030
In conflict with previous plans to discontinue the A-Class, Mercedes-Benz’s hatchback will continue to be produced in International markets till 2026. This decision change comes from moving away from a strict EV-only strategy to a more adaptable strategy.
Previously, Mercede-Benz had stated that they were planning to discontinue the A-Class in 2024 in a strategic move to achieve an all-electric lineup by 2030. The CEO of Mercedes has reconsidered this plan after studies released that half of the company’s global sales targets were met by the sale of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).

EV vehicles have not yet reached the same convenience level as internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Factors like range anxiety and the price difference between EVs and ICE prevent consumers from buying into the EV community.
Ola Kallenius, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz stated the transformation from ICE to EV is not going to be a straightforward process, there will be challenges along the way. However, Mercedes in India has stated that going straight to electric is a better strategy than Hybrids.
To facilitate the production of the A-Class on the MFA compact car platform and with the electric-oriented MMA successor the Rastatt Manufacturing Plant is being modified. The MMA platform is designed to adapt to different ICE, EV, and PHEV vehicle configurations.
For example, the third generation of the CLA, set to be released in India is equipped with the MMA platform and is available in different powertrain configurations.

A concept variant of the New CLA was displayed at the Munich Motor Show. Mercedes stated that the production version will not be altered much from the concept. Currently, the hatchback AMG A45 is sold in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 93.40 lakhs, the Sedan model called the A-Class Limousine, the A 200 for Rs 43.80lakh(ex-showroom) and the A200d for Rs 46.30 lakhs(ex-showroom).

Mercedes-Benz decision to change its strategy towards adaption of only EVs to a more gradual approach will allow consumers to switch to the EV community without such an abrupt transition to a more user friendly approach.
