Kelsey Collection Among 1,500 Collector Cars At Mecum Dallas Auction

The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center will soon become a hub for car enthusiasts. Mecum's Dallas 2024 classic and collector car auction will feature over 1,500 vehicles. The highlight is the Paul L. Kelsey, Kelsey Antique Auto Museum collection, showcasing more than 50 prewar rarities.

Leading the Kelsey collection are two notable cars: a 1914 Stutz 4E Bearcat (Lot F89) and a 1933 Auburn 12-165 Salon Speedster (Lot F88). The Stutz has been with the Kelsey family for 72 years, while the Auburn is one of only five known to exist. These vehicles have been hidden from public view for three decades.

This September 4-7, most of the Kelsey collection will be sold at no reserve in Dallas. The auction will take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, attracting consignors, bidders, and spectators alike.

Mecum’s Dallas auction will also feature vintage muscle cars. Notable examples include a rare factory-air 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible (Lot S223) with a matching-numbers 428 CI Cobra Jet V-8 engine and an award-winning 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S159).

Modern sports cars will also be on display. Highlights include a 2021 McLaren 720S Coupe (Lot F114) and the last C7 ZR1 produced: a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe (Lot S218) showing just 14 miles.

Private Collections

The auction will feature more than a dozen private collections. Among them are eight Datsun and Nissan Z models from The Angelone Z Collection and modern high-performance sports cars from the Destin Florida Cars collection, all offered at no reserve.

Additionally, over 30 classic Mopars from The Mopars 5150 Collection will be available. This includes Hemis, R/Ts, and SEs. Film-inspired cars like the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 replica from the Texas Movie Car Collection will also be featured.

Mecum's Auction History

Mecum returns to Dallas for its 14th consecutive year after achieving $46 million in sales at Mecum Dallas 2023 from over 1,400 consignments. This follows three successful auctions within five weeks during Mecum Monterey 2024 at Monterey Car Week, where sales exceeded $100 million.
