Mecum Dallas 2024 Collector Car Auction Achieves $47 Million In Sales Over Four Days
The Mecum Dallas 2024 auction, held from September 4-7, achieved impressive results with total sales reaching $47 million. This event marked the second-largest Dallas auction in Mecum's history. A total of 1,656 lots were presented at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, with 1,218 successfully sold, resulting in a sell-through rate of 74%.
Among the standout vehicles was the 1933 Auburn 12-165 Salon Speedster from the Kelsey collection, fetching $990,000. This rare car is one of only 14 ever made and just five known to exist today. The Kelsey collection featured many prewar and early 1900s vehicles, including an 1899 Mobile Steamer Roadster.
The auction showcased a variety of high-value cars. Notable sales included a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe for $410,000 and a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible at $330,000. A 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO Coupe also sold for $324,500. These sales highlighted the diverse range of vehicles that attracted collectors.
Private collections played a significant role in the event's success. The Fabulous Fords Collection featured 27 Mustang and Shelby models. Meanwhile, The Angelone Z Car Collection offered eight Datsun and Nissan "Z" models. The Destin Florida Cars group included modern sports and muscle cars like a Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Roadster, both selling for $286,000.
Mecum's next event is the Indy Fall Special from October 3-5 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Following this, Mecum will host another auction in Las Vegas from October 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Each event will feature around 1,000 vehicles available for bidding.
The Dallas auction also featured unique themes such as marque-specific collections that appealed to dedicated collectors. These themes added depth to the Texas-based event's offerings. Mopars and movie cars were among other highlights that drew attention during the auction days.
