Mecum's Indy 2024 Collector Car Auction Tops $108 Million With Stellar Sales
The 37th Original Spring Classic by Dana Mecum concluded with over $108 million in sales after nine days of auction action from May 10-18, 2024. Held in Indianapolis, the event saw 2,877 lots sold. This marks the fourth consecutive year that overall sales have surpassed $100 million.
The auction featured a diverse range of collector cars, including muscle cars, '50s classics, high-end Ferraris, and other exotics. A 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster (Lot F152) topped the sales at $2.145 million. Other notable sales included a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible (Lot S193) for $660,000 and a 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback (Lot F147) for $495,000.
Celebrity appearances added to the event's allure. Roger Penske and Rick Mears from Team Penske were present as 17 Indy pace cars from the Penske Collection were auctioned without reserve. Pat McAfee, former NFL punter and host of "The Pat McAfee Show," also attended and purchased several cars, including a 2002 Cadillac Escalade (Lot W146).
Mecum Financial Services (MFS) marked a significant milestone by presenting a ceremonial check to Dana Mecum, representing over $150 million in loans made to customers to date. This achievement underscores Mecum's robust financial growth over the past five years.
Unique Sales and Market Reach
The auction also featured unique sales such as two Tesla Cybertrucks that sold for $134,750 and $126,500 respectively. Another highlight was a 2024 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop (Lot S243), built to replicate GM’s 50 millionth automobile. This car fetched $434,500.
Indianapolis Colts Defensive End Tyquan Lewis and teammates Grover Stewart and Kendell Brooks were also present. Lewis announced plans to sell a C10 he is building at next year's Spring Classic auction.
