Mazda Survey Highlights Key Driving Challenges For Parents With Children In The Car

Driving with children is a common part of life for many parents, whether it's for school runs or family outings. However, this routine can bring additional stress. A recent survey by Mazda, involving 1,776 parents and guardians, found that 77% of them recognise the unique challenges of driving with kids. Additionally, 63% report feeling more anxious when their children are in the car.

Among those surveyed, child safety during accidents emerged as the primary concern for 55% of parents. This highlights the importance of choosing vehicles with high safety standards to protect young passengers. Consequently, nearly half of the respondents (47%) prefer cars with superior safety ratings after becoming parents. Furthermore, 84% emphasise the significance of safety ratings from organisations like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) when selecting a family vehicle.

Mazda Survey on Parents' Driving Concerns

Mazda's commitment to safety is evident as it has secured six 2024 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards. This achievement underscores its dedication to providing families with safe vehicles. Jennifer Morrison, Leader of Vehicle Safety at Mazda North American Operations, states: "Mazda's i-Activsense is designed to provide parents with peace of mind by enhancing safety and awareness on the road."

The unpredictability of external factors such as weather conditions and other drivers' behaviour ranks second among parental concerns at 43%. Fortunately, modern vehicle technologies have introduced features that enhance road safety. As a result, 40% of parents now prefer vehicles equipped with advanced safety and driver assistance systems since having children.

Keeping children entertained and managing distractions while driving is another significant concern for 32% of parents. Bored or uncomfortable kids can make journeys stressful for everyone involved. To address this issue, many parents opt for vehicles with comfort and connectivity features that keep children engaged during trips.

Comfort and Convenience Features

Mazda's survey revealed that "Smartphone Connectivity" options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are essential for 58% of parents. Additionally, "USB Ports" are crucial for 54%, while "Wi-Fi Hotspots" are important for 33%. Parents also prioritise comfort features such as a smooth ride (67%), climate control for all passengers (60%), and ample storage compartments (49%).

Mazda continues to cater to families' diverse needs by offering vehicles that combine safety, comfort, convenience, and style. Whether it's the versatile Mazda CX-5 or the spacious three-row CX-90, Mazda ensures each journey is enjoyable and secure. With premium features enhancing the driving experience, Mazda remains committed to delivering vehicles that allow families to travel confidently while enjoying quality time together.

Mazda North American Operations oversees sales and services across several countries through approximately 795 dealers. The company operates in Canada via Mazda Canada Inc., in Mexico through Mazda Motor de Mexico, and in Colombia under Mazda de Colombia.

The survey was conducted by Optimal on behalf of Mazda in July 2024 among U.S.-based parents who own at least one vehicle. It has a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 2%. The findings highlight key concerns faced by parents when driving with children.
