Mazda Sponsored Survey Reveals Majority Of Americans Are Gearing Up For A Summer Road Trip: Here Is Where They're Headed

The American tradition of road trips is still going strong, with drivers across the country preparing for their summer adventures. According to a recent survey conducted by Optimal on behalf of Mazda, 93% of Americans enjoy road trips, and at least 68% are planning to embark on one this summer. Mazda believes that creating the perfect road trip vehicle is all about providing unforgettable experiences on the road. Whether it's a comfortable ride or engaging driving dynamics, Mazda's design philosophy is focused on fostering lasting memories within the vehicle. To better understand American road trip preferences, Mazda conducted a survey to gather insights. For Americans, the appeal of road trips lies not only in reaching the final destination but also in the journey itself. When asked why they enjoy road trips for vacations, respondents frequently cited reasons such as scenic views (82%), adventure (71%), and the flexibility to stop and explore different places along the way (71%). Driving enjoyment (58%) and bonding time (57%) were also important considerations. In essence, traveling by car offers a level of versatility and emotional connection that other modes of transportation cannot match. As for popular road trip destinations this summer, Florida (23%), California (17%), and Georgia (13%) topped the list. However, these choices are heavily influenced by where road trippers reside. Unsurprisingly, the most popular types of locations road trippers plan to visit this summer are beaches (54%), followed by visits to family and friends (39%), trips to the mountains (36%), and visits to National Parks (35%).Naturally, road trippers want sufficient space and comfort in their chosen vehicles. According to the survey, the most popular types of road trip vehicles among respondents were 2-row SUVs or crossovers (31%), such as Mazda's all-new 2025 CX-70, and 3-row SUVs or crossovers (20%), like the first-ever 2024 CX-90. When it comes to essential features in a road trip vehicle, comfort and smart organization are key. Comfortable seating was selected 85% of the time, followed by ample storage compartments (50%) and interior cargo capacity (44%). Mazda intentionally designs its driver's seats to align with the body's natural posture, ensuring a seamless reaction to the vehicle's movements. Models like the CX-90 and CX-70 even offer Nappa leather-trimmed seats with driver personalization settings for enhanced comfort during long journeys. Additionally, Mazda's newest two-row crossover, the CX-70, addresses road trippers' practical needs with unique sub-trunk storage for a clutter-free adventure. When it comes to technology features, in-car GPS navigation is viewed as crucial for a road trip vehicle, selected 73% of the time. Smartphone connectivity is also highly valued, trailing closely behind at 58%. Other top technology selections include USB ports (51%), security systems (42%), and Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (42%). In terms of safety and driver assistance features, respondents identified backup cameras (67%), blind spot monitoring (56%), and collision warning (47%) as their top three must-haves. While backup cameras are now standard on vehicles built in or after 2018, the latter two features are not always offered. Mazda demonstrates its strong commitment to safety through its i-ACTIVSENSE® technology, which is included in all new vehicles. This technology offers critical safety features such as blind spot monitoring and smart brake support. Mazda's dedication to safety has earned the brand five 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards, solidifying its position among the top brands in safety excellence.Mazda understands the deep connection between driver, passenger, and vehicle. That's why they incorporate human-centric design into every model, enhancing every moment of the road trip journey. From industry-leading safety ratings to comfortable and ergonomic seating designed for long-distance driving support, road trippers can feel confident in whichever Mazda vehicle they choose. As drivers across the country gear up for their summer adventures, Mazda remains committed to creating vehicles that not only provide safe and comfortable transportation but also inspire unforgettable memories along the way.About Mazda North American Operations:Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, California, and oversees the sales, marketing, parts, and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia through approximately 795 dealers.
