Mazda Earns Eight IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Awards For 2024, Leading The Industry In Vehicle Safety
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed the final list of vehicles awarded the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ honours. Mazda's 2025 CX-70 and CX-70 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) have both secured the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. The 2025 CX-50, along with its new hybrid version, retained its TOP SAFETY PICK+ status after improvements in pedestrian crash prevention were retested.
Mazda has achieved more IIHS 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other brand. Other Mazda models receiving this accolade include the 2024-2025 Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-90, and CX-90 PHEV. "Mazda once again demonstrated its commitment to safety, acting quickly to meet the tougher standards we adopted for the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award," stated IIHS President David Harkey.
Tom Donnelly, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, expressed pride in their achievements. He said, "Mazda's research and development teams keep safety top of mind as they work to continually improve our crashworthiness and crash avoidance technologies to meet and exceed the increasingly rigorous testing standards set by IIHS." He also highlighted their satisfaction in adding the CX-70 models to their list of award winners.
To earn a 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, vehicles must achieve good ratings in small overlap front and updated side impact crash tests. They also need an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash test, which now focuses on back seat safety. Additionally, an acceptable or good rating in pedestrian front crash prevention is required, along with acceptable or good-rated headlights across all trims.
The IIHS operates as an independent safety-testing organisation funded by the insurance industry. It plays a crucial role in evaluating vehicle safety standards. For more information about their ratings and criteria, visit their website at https://www.iihs.org/ratings/top-safety-picks.
