Maserati MSG Racing Confronts Difficulties At São Paulo E-Prix Season 11 Opener

The opening round of the season saw Maserati MSG Racing secure their first championship point. Stoffel Vandoorne finished in tenth place, earning one point, while Jake Hughes did not finish the race. Maserati MSG Racing now holds eighth position in the championship standings with a single point.

During qualifying, Jake Hughes aimed for a top-four finish but ended up 18th on the grid. Stoffel Vandoorne had a better performance, narrowly missing out on a duels appearance by 0.074 seconds, placing him ninth at the start. Both drivers began the São Paulo E-Prix strongly, gaining positions early on.

Unfortunately, Jake's race ended abruptly on the second lap due to an incident involving multiple cars. He explained, "There was a bit of a traffic jam ahead, three or four cars involved in someone else’s accident actually." This collision forced him into the wall, ending his race prematurely.

With Jake out of the race, Stoffel focused on securing points for Maserati MSG Racing. He utilised Attack Mode early to climb from ninth to third place. However, red flags disrupted his strategy, and he lost valuable time during these interruptions.

Despite these challenges, Stoffel managed to hold onto tenth place until another red flag incident occurred. A post-race penalty for Nissan's Morman Nato eventually promoted Stoffel to tenth position, securing Maserati's first points of Season 11.

Team Reflections and Future Plans

Cyril Blais, Team Principal of Maserati MSG Racing, acknowledged that it wasn't the start they wanted but highlighted areas for improvement. "We have to look at our pure pace and I think we’re lacking," he stated. The team aims to analyse data and improve performance for upcoming races.

Jake Hughes expressed optimism despite his short race experience. "We learnt a lot of lessons this weekend that should help us in the season going forward," he noted. The team is focused on learning from this experience to enhance future performances.

Maserati continues its tradition of producing unique cars known for style and performance. Their lineup includes models like Grecale and GranTurismo Folgore, showcasing their commitment to innovation and sustainability in electric vehicles.

Maserati MSG Racing remains committed to sustainability and technical excellence as they navigate Season 11 of Formula E. Despite initial setbacks, they aim to build on their experiences and strive for success in future races.
