Maserati Launches MC20 Icona & Leggenda To Honor 20 Years Of The Iconic MC12

Modena, Italy – June 18, 2024 – Maserati has unveiled the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, two Special Series vehicles commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Trident's return to racing in 2004 with the MC12. The MC12, a benchmark in GT championships, inspired the Maserati MC20 super sports car, which debuted in 2020 with the innovative V6 Nettuno engine.

The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda will each be produced in a limited edition of 20 units. These models feature special liveries and exclusive content inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone liveries. The MC20 Icona's livery pays homage to the 2004 MC12 Stradale, featuring Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale colours.

Several features from the Fuoriserie Personalisation Program are included in the MC20 Icona. These include exclusive details for refined customization, such as the Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace on the side livery and Italian flag logo on the door under the MC20 lettering. The chrome-plated wheels have silver hubcaps with a contrasting blue Trident logo.

The brake callipers are painted blue, mirrors come with an auto-dimming feature, and the engine cover is made of carbon fibre. The MC20 Leggenda sports a livery in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte, reflecting the award-winning MC12 GT1 under the Vitaphone Racing team. This car achieved three victories and two runner-up positions in the 24 Hours of Spa.

The Fuoriserie features of the MC20 Leggenda include trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps. The Trident logo appears in yellow on the grille, doors, and C-pillar, while brake callipers are painted black. Both special series feature lightweight 4-way monocoque racing seats with specific embroidery on the headrest.

The central section of these seats is in Nero/Blu on a silver background for Icona or in Nero on a silver background for Leggenda. The cover over the Nettuno engine includes a badge with "ICONA. UNA DI 20" or "LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20." Both models also feature a sophisticated Sonus faber sound system.

Other shared features include a carbon fibre interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind spot and rear cross path systems, and mats in both the front and boot areas. The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda celebrate Maserati's golden age on track with the legendary MC12 GT1.

Between 2004 and 2010, the MC12 GT1 achieved 27 victories in FIA GT Championships, three wins at the 24 Hours of Spa, six Teams’ championships with Vitaphone Racing, five Drivers' championships including two FIA GT1 World Championships, and two Constructors' championships for Maserati.

The MC12 Stradale, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and equipped with a Ferrari-derived V12 engine, remains Maserati's fastest production car with a top speed of 330 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Only 50 units were produced.

Today, the legacy of those triumphs is reflected in the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda. Maserati continues to produce unique cars known for their extraordinary personality, style, technology, and exclusivity. The current line-up includes models like Grecale SUV, GranTurismo grand tourer, GranCabrio convertible, and more.

Maserati's range features hybrid powertrains for Grecale and V6 petrol engines with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive options. The top range includes the MC20 super sports car and MC20 Cielo spyder powered by the Nettuno V6 engine incorporating F1-derived technologies into standard production cars for the first time.

The GranTurismo is available with both high-performance V6 petrol engines derived from Nettuno and a fully electric version called GranTurismo Folgore. Maserati's full-electric range also includes Grecale Folgore SUV and GranCabrio Folgore convertible.

By 2025, all Maserati models will be available in full-electric versions, with plans for an entirely electric range by 2028.
