Maserati GT2 Achieves Victory And Second Place At Monza In Fanatec GT2 European Series

Maserati dominated the podium in Race 1 at the revamped Autodromo Nazionale di Monza during round 5 of the Fanatec GT2 European Series. The House of the Trident secured all three top spots. Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini, driving the number 1 Maserati GT2 for LP Racing, claimed victory. Alexandre Leroy, in car number 24 with TFT Racing, took pole position and won the AM class.

Philippe Prette, driving car number 2 for LP Racing, completed the podium and became runner-up in his class. In Race 2, Gorini and Tamburini achieved a crucial second place after starting from the back due to a qualifying issue. This result keeps them in contention for an overall championship win. Prette faced misfortune with a puncture on the last lap, finishing ninth overall.

Alexandre Leroy had to withdraw from Race 2 following contact with another competitor. A fourth Maserati GT2 debuted at Monza, driven by Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini for Dinamic Motorsport. Unfortunately, it couldn't finish Race 1 due to an accident that prevented participation in Race 2. The Maserati GT2s made a strong start in Race 1 behind poleman Leroy.

After a safety car intervention, Maserati cars occupied the top three positions. Gorini overtook both Prette and Leroy initially. Post-pit stop, Tamburini extended his lead to secure first place ahead of Leroy and Prette, achieving an all-Maserati podium finish.

The second race saw Gorini and Tamburini make a comeback after starting from the back due to qualifying issues. Tamburini quickly moved into second place within a few laps. Prette and Leroy aimed for podium finishes but faced setbacks; Leroy retired after contact at the first chicane while Prette suffered a puncture on the final lap.

Gorini took over from Tamburini in their Maserati GT2 and closed in on the leader but couldn't overtake before the finish line. Despite this, they remain contenders for overall victory at Barcelona's final round from October 11 to 13. Prette and Leroy also have chances to win their class title.

Unveiling New Models

The Monza event showcased Maserati's new GT2 Stradale super sports car for the first time during the Fanatec GT2 European Series weekend powered by Pirelli. Officially unveiled in August at Monterey Car Week in California, this car represents exceptional sportiness through technical and stylistic fusion between Maserati GT2 and MC20 models.

The GT2 Stradale is track-rooted yet road-approved, blending racing performance with everyday usability. It features top speeds of 324 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, making it agile among rear-wheel drives.

Maserati's Future Plans

Alongside these models was MCXtrema—a track-only racing car limited to just 62 units—highlighting Italian brand exclusivity aimed at gentleman drivers and enthusiasts alike with its impressive power output of 740 hp.
