Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Unveiled – Fun Without Fumes
Maserati has unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV) marvel, the GranCabrio Folgore, making a striking entrance as an all-electric convertible. This sleek EV emerges as a breath of fresh air in the drop-top market, offering an eco-friendly yet luxurious driving experience.
The GranCabrio Folgore aligns closely with its sibling, the GranTurismo Folgore, sharing the same powertrain and numerous components, ensuring a blend of performance and elegance. The heart of the GranCabrio Folgore beats with a T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack nestled between and behind the seats, optimizing the car's classic design.
This strategic placement diverges from the common floor-mounted batteries found in most electric vehicles today, allowing Maserati to maintain the car's iconic proportions. The battery boasts a capacity of 92.5kWh, with 83kWh utilization, which is good for a range of up to 448km.
Despite sharing its powertrain with the GranTurismo Folgore, the GranCabrio Folgore stands out with its impressive specifications. It features three radial-flux permanent-magnet motors, each paired with a silicon carbide inverter. With two motors at the rear and one at the front, the EV puts out 900kW, (1,190bhp).
However, due to battery constraints, the car delivers a peak output of 806bhp in MaxBoost mode and 740bhp during normal operations. Additionally, it supports regenerative braking, capable of recovering up to 400kW momentarily. The car boasts a rapid charging capability, filling up from 20 to 80 percent in just 18mins.
Maserati has integrated several innovative features to enhance the driving experience of the GranCabrio Folgore. Drivers can adjust the level of regenerative braking via paddles, allowing for efficient energy recovery and extended range. The system also advises drivers on when to engage regenerative braking and when to coast.
