Maserati Corse Appoints Maria Conti As New Head Following Giovanni Sgro's Leadership
Maserati has announced a leadership change in its motorsport division, effective from 1 October 2024. Giovanni Sgro, who led Maserati's sporting activities for two years, will be succeeded by Maria Conti as Head of Maserati Corse. The brand expressed gratitude to Sgro for his dedication and efforts in steering Maserati back to the racetrack.
Maria Conti will report directly to Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO, and operationally to Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP at Stellantis Motorsport. Conti brings over two decades of experience in automotive communication and lifestyle sectors. Previously, she served as Chief Communication Officer for the House of the Trident.

Conti's appointment marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman to lead Maserati’s motorsport activities. Her return from maternity leave coincides with this new role. Known for her expertise and creativity, Conti is expected to infuse enthusiasm into Maserati's competitive spirit on the track.
Giovanni Sgro played a pivotal role in Maserati's participation in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the Fanatec GT2 European Series. He also contributed to developing and launching the exclusive Maserati MCXtrema halo car. His efforts have been acknowledged by Davide Grasso, who praised Sgro's passion for supporting Maserati's racing endeavours.
Maserati produces a diverse range of cars known for their unique personality and style. These vehicles are designed with cutting-edge technology and an exclusive character that appeals to discerning tastes worldwide. The lineup includes models like the Grecale SUV, GranTurismo grand tourer, and GranCabrio convertible.
The brand's vehicles are equipped with advanced powertrains, including hybrid options for some models like the Grecale. The MC20 super sports car features the innovative Nettuno V6 engine, which incorporates Formula 1-derived technologies into a standard production vehicle.
Future Electric Plans
Maserati is committed to electrification, with plans to offer all models in full-electric versions by 2025. By 2028, the entire range will run solely on electricity. Current electric offerings include the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore SUV.
