Maruti Suzuki Swift Experiences Sales Decline: Hopes Rise With Upcoming CNG Variants
The Maruti Suzuki Swift, a favourite among Indian hatchback buyers, has unveiled its sales figures for August 2024. The company sold 12,844 units of the Swift in India during this period.
This is a notable drop from the 18,653 units sold in August 2023, marking a 31% decline. Despite this decrease, the Swift still secured the 7th spot in the list of top-10 best-selling cars in India for August 2024.

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is available only with a petrol engine. However, reports indicate that CNG variants will be launched on September 12th. The introduction of these CNG models is anticipated to boost Swift's sales. The CNG variants are expected to offer an impressive mileage of 35 km per kg, generating considerable excitement among Indian customers.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift starts at ₹6.49 lakh, with the top variant priced at ₹9.45 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 82 PS and 112 Nm of torque.
This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. A standout feature is the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Additional features include automatic air conditioning, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, push-button start/stop, and connected car technology. These features enhance the driving experience and add to the car's appeal.
Safety is a priority for the Maruti Suzuki Swift. All variants come standard with six airbags, making it a standout in its segment. Other safety features include rear parking sensors, a rear parking camera, an electronic stability program, and hill hold assist. These features contribute to making the Swift a value-for-money product.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift offers nine colour options: six mono-tone and three dual-tone choices. It also provides a boot space of 265 litres, which is ample for daily use. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki claims that the manual gearbox variant delivers a mileage of 24.80 kmpl, while the AMT variant offers 25.75 kmpl. This makes it an attractive option for those seeking high fuel efficiency.
Despite the decline in sales figures compared to last year, the Maruti Suzuki Swift remains a popular choice due to its blend of performance, features, and safety. The upcoming CNG variants are likely to further enhance its appeal in the Indian market.
