Maruti Suzuki Sets Benchmark With 2 Million Rail Vehicle Dispatches
Maruti Suzuki has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 2 million cumulative vehicle dispatches via railways. This accomplishment underscores the company's dedication to green logistics, making it the first auto manufacturer in India to reach this eco-friendly benchmark.
Railways provide a safer, congestion-free, and energy-efficient alternative to road transport for vehicles. Maruti Suzuki has scaled up its railway dispatches from 65,700 units in FY 2014-15 to 447,750 units in FY 2023-24. Currently, the company dispatches vehicles to 20 destinations, covering over 450 cities through Indian railways.

Maruti Suzuki Commitment to Green Logistics
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, "Maruti Suzuki pioneered the use of railways for vehicle dispatches over a decade ago by becoming the first company in India to obtain the Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator license. Since then, the company has systematically increased its share of vehicle dispatches using railways."
The company's sustained efforts in green logistics have led to remarkable outcomes. These include a cumulative reduction of approximately 10,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and savings of around 270 million litres of fuel.

Maruti Suzuki Infrastructure Developments
Earlier this year, under the PM Gati Shakti programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first automobile in-plant railway siding at Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat facility. This facility can dispatch around 300,000 vehicles annually. The next in-plant railway siding is being developed at the Manesar facility and will be operational soon.
The company remains committed to supporting the Government of India's Net zero emissions target by 2070. By leveraging railways for vehicle transportation, Maruti Suzuki aims to contribute significantly towards this goal while enhancing its logistical efficiency.
Maruti Suzuki's strategic shift towards using railways for vehicle dispatches highlights its proactive approach towards sustainable practices. This move not only reduces environmental impact but also aligns with broader national objectives on sustainability and emission reductions.

The company's ongoing infrastructure developments further reinforce its commitment to expanding green logistics solutions. The new facilities are expected to enhance capacity and efficiency in vehicle dispatches through railways.
This achievement marks a significant step forward for Maruti Suzuki in its journey towards sustainable growth and environmental responsibility. The company's efforts set a precedent for other auto manufacturers in India aiming for greener logistics solutions.
