Maruti Suzuki Sales Improve In June 2024: Hatchback Sales Decline

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's largest automaker by volume, has reported impressive sales growth for June 2024. The company's passenger vehicle segment experienced mixed results, with mini, compact, and mid-size models facing a year-on-year (YoY) decline, while utility vehicle and van sales boosted overall numbers. In contrast, the commercial vehicle segment saw lower sales, particularly in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) category.

Passenger Vehicle Sales

Sales of mini-segment cars such as the Alto and S-Presso dropped to 9,395 units in June 2024 from 14,054 units in June 2023. Year-to-date (YTD) sales also declined, with 30,816 units sold between April and June 2024 compared to 40,400 units during the same period in 2023.

Grand Vitara

Compact car models like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR experienced a marginal decrease in sales. Last month's sales stood at 64,049 units compared to 64,471 units in June 2023.

Ciaz sales also fell YoY and YTD to 572 units and 2,169 units respectively. However, significant growth was observed in the utility vehicle segment which includes models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Invicto S-Cross and XL6.

Ertiga

Sales reached an impressive 52,373 units last month compared to 43,404 units in June 2023. YTD sales also increased to 1,63,130 units between April and June 2024 from 1,26,401 units during the same period last year.

Van Sales and Exports

In the van segment featuring the Eeco model, sales grew to 10,771 units last month from 9,354 units in June last year. YTD sales also rose to 33,791 units over the same period of time from 32,676 units in June last year. Total domestic passenger vehicle sales improved YoY by 3.11% to reach 1,37,160 units in June this year from 1,33,027 units sold in June last year.

Maruti Suzuki's exports also saw remarkable growth with shipments increasing to 31,033 units in June this year compared to just 19,770 units exported during the same month last year. YTD export figures also showed promising growth with a total of 70,560 vehicles shipped between April and June this year compared to only 63,218 vehicles during the same period last year.

Commercial Vehicle Sales

In the LCV segment featuring only the Super Carry model sales decreased to just 2,758 units in June this year from 2,992 units in June last year. On a YTD basis, there was also a negative effect with sales at 7,946 units during April-June this year as against 8,079 units sold during that same three-month period of last year.

Overall total domestic sales (passenger vehicles + LCVs) reached 1,39,918 units in June this year up from nearly 1,36,019 units sold in June last year. While YTD total domestic sales grew to 4,27,060 units compared to 4,22,134 units sold during that same period of last year.

DriveSpark Thinks

Maruti Suzuki accounted for total sales (domestic + exports) of 1,79,228 units in June this year which is a 12.43 per cent growth from 1,59,418 units sold during that same month of last year, this shows an overall sales improvement for the automaker in the country.
