Maruti Suzuki Faces a 3.63% Sales Drop in July 2024 Amidst Industry Challenges
Maruti Suzuki has announced a total sales figure of 1,75,041 vehicles for July 2024. This represents a 3.63% drop compared to the same month last year, when sales reached 1,81,630 vehicles. The breakdown includes domestic sales, cars manufactured for other companies, and exports.
In the compact segment, which includes models like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki sold 58,682 units in July 2024. This is a significant decrease from the 67,102 units sold in July 2023, reflecting a 12.54% decline.

Out of the total sales in July 2024, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,40,354 vehicles domestically. Additionally, the company produced 10,702 vehicles for other car manufacturers and exported 23,985 units.
The mini segment saw a slight increase in sales. Maruti Suzuki sold 9960 units of the Alto and S-Presso in July 2024 compared to 9590 units in July 2023. This marks a 3.85% rise in sales for this segment.

In the utility vehicle segment, which includes models such as the Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, and XL6, Maruti Suzuki sold 56,302 units in July 2024. This is a decline from the 62,049 units sold in July 2023, representing a 9.26% decrease.
The mid-size segment saw a notable drop. Maruti Suzuki's only offering in this category is the Ciaz sedan. The company sold just 603 units in July 2024 compared to 1348 units in July 2023. This indicates a sharp decline of 55.26%, highlighting the broader trend of falling sedan sales across India.
Light Commercial Vehicles
Maruti Suzuki's light commercial vehicle segment showed growth. The Super Carry model sold 2,891 units in July 2024 compared to only 259 units in July 2023. This marks an impressive increase of 12.97%.
Manufacturing for Toyota
Under an agreement with Toyota, Maruti Suzuki manufactures and supplies models like the Ertiga, Baleno, and XL6 with minor redesigns for Toyota to sell under different names. In July alone, Maruti Suzuki produced and sold 10,702 cars to Toyota.

The van segment experienced a slight decline. Maruti Suzuki's Eeco model sold 11,916 units in July 2024 compared to 12,037 units in July last year. This represents a small decrease of about 1%.
Export Figures
Exports showed positive growth for Maruti Suzuki. The company exported a total of 23,985 vehicles in July this year compared to 22,199 vehicles last year. This marks an increase of about 8.04%.
The beginning of August has seen various automotive manufacturers releasing their sales figures for July. Maruti Suzuki's detailed report reveals an overall decline of about 3.63% in total sales.
Sedan sales have been declining significantly across India. This trend is evident from Maruti Suzuki's performance in the mid-size segment where only the Ciaz sedan is offered.
Maruti Suzuki remains India's largest car manufacturer despite experiencing a notable decline in sales this past month. The company might introduce various discounts to boost future sales.
