Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition Bids Goodbye
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny Thunder Edition recently made its exit, causing quite a stir among enthusiasts of rugged and outdoorsy vehicles. This spirited contender had been pitted against the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha, offering compelling value for money with its aggressive pricing strategy.
Initially, Maruti Suzuki had enticed customers with an alluring Rs 2 lakh discount on both the Zeta and Alpha trims of the Jimny and threw in a Rs 25,000 worth Thunder Edition cosmetic upgrade at no extra cost. The combination of discounts and freebies effectively brought the overall cost down by a hefty Rs 2.25 lakh.

Jimny Thunder Edition Discontinued
Maruti Suzuki's foray with the Jimny in the lifestyle off-roader segment was an endeavour to capture the attention drawn by the Mahindra Thar's soaring popularity. With a legacy of crafting rugged vehicles like the Gypsy, Maruti Suzuki already had a strong foothold in the segment.
The Jimny, which was being manufactured in India for global consumption, seemed like the perfect candidate to introduce locally to go head-to-head with the Thar. However, the Jimny, offered in a distinctive 5-door version unlike its 3-door international counterpart, couldn't quite match the sales volume of the Thar.
The kit included a variety of aesthetic enhancements such as roof rails, a spare wheel cover for the tailgate, a stylized front bumper garnish, and exclusive decals that added to its rugged charm. The interior was not left out, with updates like a tan steering wheel cover and leatherette seat upholstery, giving the Jimny a refreshed and premium feel.
Jimny Prices in 2024
After the discontinuation of the Thunder Edition, early adopters who had paid the full price were understandably upset as they missed out on considerable savings. The starting price for the Jimny is back to Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom), but Maruti Suzuki hasn't completely shut the door on deals.
They are still providing discounts and benefits that can total around Rs 1 lakh, although these are subject to various factors. Prospective buyers are encouraged to visit their nearest Nexa dealership for the latest offers.
Maruti Suzuki ensures that all its Jimny models come standard with a 4X4 transfer case, setting it apart from the Mahindra Thar, which offers 4X4 selectively, based on the variant and engine combination. The Jimny is powered by a 1.5L, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine with 103bhp and 134.2Nm of torque, and is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
In conclusion, while the Jimny Thunder Edition may have ridden off into the sunset, Maruti Suzuki continues to entice off-road aficionados with its robust Jimny, offering a blend of performance and value. The company's commitment to providing a capable and affordable off-roader remains steadfast, ensuring that the spirit of adventure is always within reach for Indian consumers.
