Distinct in aesthetics and form, the Thunder Edition offered the Jetta and Alfa trims, bundled with a free Thunder Edition Kit, previously valued at Rs 25,000. This kit embellished the Jimny with various adornments - from roof rails to a tailgate-mounted spare wheel cover, culminating in a more rugged and adventure-ready persona.
However, this array of complimentary accessories will no longer be up for grabs, as the company has elected to retract this offer. Yet, not all is lost for off-road aficionados, as Maruti Suzuki ensures the standard Jimny remains kitted with 4X4 technology across all variants, presenting an edge over the Thar, which lists it merely as an option.
Under the hood, the Jimny maintains its singular focus with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces a robust 103 bhp and a torque of 134.2 Nm. It is mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission, appealing to a variety of driving preferences. This is contrasted by the Mahindra Thar's provision of both petrol and diesel engines, an option not explored by the Jimny.
