Auto Expo 2025: Maruti Suzuki Likely To Showcase Hustler EV

Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to unveil the e Vitara electric SUV at the Auto Expo 2025. While the complete lineup for the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo remains undisclosed, Maruti Suzuki was recently seen testing the Hustler micro SUV. It is speculated that this vehicle might be showcased with an all-electric powertrain at the event.

Earlier, Maruti Suzuki revealed their strategy to introduce 6 new electric vehicles in India by 2030. An image shared during this announcement hinted at these upcoming EVs, one of which resembled the Hustler, a crossover SUV-style kei car available in Japan.

The Hustler, first launched in 2014, currently features a small 658cc petrol engine in Japan. However, Suzuki may convert this model into an electric vehicle for international markets.

Although specific details about the Hustler EV's specifications are yet to be disclosed by Suzuki, it is expected to share its powertrain with the Wagon R EV prototype. This prototype has been under testing since 2018 but was shelved due to cost concerns compared to its petrol counterpart. Lessons from this testing phase could be applied to the Hustler EV.

The current-generation Hustler measures 421mm longer, 20mm taller, and 30mm narrower than the MG Comet EV and offers four doors, unlike its competitor. The production version of the eVX concept, known as the e Vitara, is confirmed for display at Auto Expo 2025. It is anticipated that Maruti Suzuki might also present the Hustler EV alongside it to assess consumer interest before deciding on a market launch around 2026.

While it's premature to pinpoint competitors without full specifications or range details for the Hustler EV, its dimensions suggest potential rivalry with models like MG Comet EV, Tata Tiago EV, and Citroen eC3. The anticipated sub-30kWh battery pack could offer a driving range nearing 250km per charge.
