Maruti Suzuki Halts Production Of CNG Cars – WagonR CNG Exempted
In a notable shift within the auto industry, Maruti Suzuki has temporarily halted the production of several of its CNG models. Specifically, the production of the Alto K10 CNG, Celerio CNG, and S-Presso CNG.
Looking into the details, the production of the above-listed models has been paused from March 2024. This leaves the Maruti Suzuki WagonR 1.0L CNG as the sole model with a 1.0L CNG powertrain to continue its production process.

Though the exact reasons behind the production halt remain undisclosed, we think that Maruti Suzuki aiming to deplete existing inventories of these models at dealership outlets before considering a production resumption.
This is a common strategy among car manufacturers across the globe and it generally suggests an effort to streamline inventory management, particularly for the models ready for immediate delivery.

Despite this production pause of CNG models, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR 1.0L CNG model will proceed with its production due to its sustained high demand in the Indian automobile market.
Dealers holding stock of the affected models are open to booking and delivering these vehicles as per usual practices. Nonetheless, potential buyers might encounter extended delivery timelines, possibly due to depleted stocks or limited inventory availability at the moment.

As of now, updated waiting period details of these models remain unavailable. However, we expect most of these models to have shorter waiting periods. However, with time, popular models and colour options will be exhausted and customers will have to wait for production to resume.
That being said, given the demand for Maruti Suzuki models in India, we expect the Indo-Japanese automaker to soon resume the production of the models. Also, dealers are also likely to give some offers from their end on existing stock vehicles.
